Drop BMR1 V2 Nearfield Monitors

A Better BMR1. A Better Desktop Sound System.

Redefining the desktop listening experience, our first-gen BMR1 speakers fit a lot of performance into a compact, customizable package. Now, they’re coming back—in a second generation filled with upgrades. Meet the Drop BMR1 V2 Nearfield Monitors: the big sound your desk has been missing, in a footprint that’s anything but. Retaining the small-but-mighty wide-bandwidth drivers found on the original—which leverage Balanced Mode Radiation (BMR) to deliver powerful, full-range audio in a compact form factor—the BMR1 V2 makes marked improvements in overall operation. Most crucially, it runs about 25% cooler than its predecessor, taking the heat off longer listening sessions. Updated Bluetooth pairing allows for several devices to be stored at once, while an upgraded Low Power Mode now works for both Bluetooth and analog listening modes. Speaking of analog listening, a redesigned input jack provides automatic muting to stop pesky noises from plug insertion. Add in longer cables, tighter stand tolerances, optimized LED settings, a new manual Standby Mode, and a new white colorway, and you have a set of speakers to fit in—and stand out—in any setup.

What’s New in V2?

If the original BMR1 was community-requested, the BMR1 V2 is community-refined. You listened—and then we listened. Our list of improvements is based on your input, and it includes everything from optimized connectivity to cooler operation. We’re talking 25% cooler—a major improvement for both listening endurance and listening environments. We also made it easier to connect: updating the Bluetooth pairing to remember multiple devices, increasing the lengths of all included cables, and including a new input jack that momentarily mutes the speakers whenever you plug in. We decreased the maximum LED brightness for less distracting low-light usage and increased the stand tolerances to accommodate a more secure connection. Finally, we upgraded a few of the onboard listening modes—expanding Low Power Mode to work on all listening modes and adding a new manual Standby Mode so you can put your BMR1 V2 to sleep with the press of a button.

Balancing Size With Soundstage

On any desk, size is always a concern—but it shouldn’t be a compromise. When designing the BMR1, we made it our mission to create a compact pair of speakers that didn’t cut corners on audio quality. Committing to a small footprint, we knew we had to find class-leading drivers to deliver distortion-free sound that punched way above its weight class. That’s why we recruited the team at Tectonic Audio Labs, who have developed ultra-compact drivers equipped with a technology called Balanced Mode Radiation (BMR) to all but eliminate breakup and beaming by using a balanced disc (rather than a cone) to push air and create room-filling sound. In the BMR1, this technology is actualized in a pair of 2-inch, full-range BMR drivers combined with a pair of force-canceling passive radiators that fire in opposite directions to cancel out unwanted vibrations. Together with our meticulous, transparent tuning, these components give the BMR1 an expansive soundstage with detail and loudness to spare.

Versatile Connectivity With Room to Grow

A good set of speakers should excel in a wide range of setups. Beyond its expressive, expansive sound, the BMR1 packs a lot of connective convenience into its compact form factor. Beyond its standard 3.5-millimeter output, the BMR1 also features a subwoofer-2.0-to-2.1 switch, which attenuates the bass emitted from the BMR1 itself for more synergistic listening with a subwoofer. (With this switch activated, you can also turn up the BMR1 a bit louder, due to the tamed bass.) And via a 3.5-millimeter input, users can also connect the BMR1 to a wide range of additional audio sources, such as turntables, tape decks, CD players, and more. For extra convenience, we’ve also equipped the BMR1 with Bluetooth 5.0 (and support for both AAC and SBC codecs) to give listeners a stable, great-sounding wireless option.

Interchangeable Personalized Grilles

Your desk is precious real estate. If you’re like most members of our community, you need it to be as functional as possible—and you want it to reflect your personal aesthetic. With a compact footprint and convenient adjustability, the BMR1 is the definition of functional. It’s also customizable. That’s because we’ve paired it with intuitive, interchangeable magnetic grilles so you can switch up your look whenever you like. Right now, the BMR1 ships without grilles—as many Drop users love its spare, industrial style—but you can add four alternate grille colorways to your order right here. In the future, we’ll be making new grilles with colorways based on some of our most popular keycap sets—as well as input from you.

There are some that are experimenting with 3D printable mounts for their BMR1 speakers. Found one example here: https://www.printables.com/model/563788-drop-bmr1-speaker-monitor-mountRead More
