Product Description
Made for the EDC Community, the Massdrop Brass AAA Pocket Flashlight is about the size of a tube of chapstick—but it pumps out 110 lumens and casts a beam as far as 154 feet (with the CREE XP-G2 R5 LED). Despite measuring less than 3 inches long, it weighs 1.5 ounces for a substantial feel in the hand Read More

Fantastic light. I prefer the Nichia Hi CRI LED version. Slips into any pocket from suit trousers to jeans. The small size means it is always available, making it the most convenient flashlight I own. The low beam first is unique, and very welcome. There is too much emphasis on absolute brightness rather than usability. I almost always prefer the lowest brightness setting, as it seems to have the least impact on my ability to see in very low light situations. I have a few small twist switch flashlights which I no longer use as the tail switch is considerably more convenient. I do not use the clip. I like the copper and copper alloy/brass because they are naturally antimicrobial and the light is always with me. I would love to get a AA version of the same flashlight. AA’s are easier to find globally.

Excellent product, the patina looks great after about a year of regular use. Heavy duty and excellent construction. I drop this light more than I should on hard surfaces, including concrete and pavement. Incredibly useful, compact, and reliable. This is an important component to my EDC.

Edit: This light lasted two years of daily carry. (Feb 2017 - April 2019) The switch has failed in the “on” position and will not turn off. I took apart the tail cap and am unable to work on the small printed circuit board. The rest of the light is in great shape. I have ordered another light as replacement, but I wish I could just order the internal switch. The review below still stands. This is a great light. I do not like using my phone light and I get into a lot of cabinets or crawl under spaces where I need two hands to perform a task. Good things: 1. Finish and materials are excellent. 2. Variable light settings work well. 3. Battery life seems to last for a long time. 4. The size of the light means it easily carries in the pocket. The only two negatives about the light: 1. The key ring is practically useless for me, it was too small. 2. The light can become very "warm" if used for longer periods on the high setting. I have the Nichia 219 LED and the softer light tone helps not to blind when there are reflective materials in the area I shine the light.

Very nice, compact light. This is my third Lumintop AAA and by far my favorite. Originally I picked up the Ti AAA Tool and lost it within a month, but that's not the light's fault. My son stole the aluminum one I bought to replace the titanium and so I grabbed the brass version here. The weight of the brass version certainly makes it feel the most tool like of the three and the variable settings being low-medium-high instead of medium-low-high like the Ti Tool is also an improvement in my opinion. I opted for the warmer color Nichia LED in the brass light and prefer it to the Cree even though the Cree is slightly brighter in the high setting. I tend to hold the light in my mouth quite a bit to use both hands and the electronic tail switch still functions like new. No complaints with this light whatsoever.

EDIT: June 2020 - After using this light nearly daily for a couple of years I will say it has held up quite well, but has recently developed an issue with the tail switch. A few days ago the switch stopped working completely. Push the button, nothing happens. Occasionally I would get a brief flash but the light would not stay on. I swapped the switch with one from a similar Lumintop light and the issue followed the switch. I tried getting in contact with Lumintop to see if replacement parts are available, but their site does not suggest that is the case. After leaving the switch disconnected from the battery for a few days it seems to be working again, but for how long I don't know. I'll add another update to the review after some time has passed.

OK when it worked, which was not very often
Upon initially inserting the battery, it took many presses of the switch to get it to turn on. Eventually it did. It was finicky one more time, but only took ~5 presses to illuminate. I haven't used the light in ~1 month and just tried to power it on now, right as a Category 4 or 5 hurricane is looming, and the thing will not turn on. Been trying for hours. I've swapped batteries a few times, to no avail. Seems the button is no longer working at all. Complete waste of money.

Shipped the wrong LED version, oh well. I like the feel in the hand. After less than a week of simply being in a dress slacks pocket, the clip just snapped off tonight. It didn't "come off" from the flashlight, the clip snapped right off where it meets the part that wraps around the flashlight body. Let's see if massdrop will ship me a proper clip from the titanium or copper model, but I doubt it. Just avoid. Delays on delays, worthless clip. *edit* nope, got the typical "we only order what gets ordered" line of BS, with no recourse beyond "you can return it after waiting months" I'm going to fabricate a clip for it myself, but I'm never buying another massdrop exclusive item that I can't get manufacturer support on. I would highly recommend you all avoid this and instead get something by Reylight for a similar price. *double edit* Reylight makes a clip that fits this flashlight. He sent me one for free. I bought a pineapple and pineapple mini from him anyways. Just buy from reylight.

not great
It broke almost immediately after one year of very light light use, the LED simply wouldn't work any more. I expected a lot more out of this light. With the warranty as it is, you're on your own, so I'd recommend a different produce.

cruncherI hope people that are considering buying this light actually spend five minutes reading through the dozens of negative reviews (at least the reviews that haven't already been deleted by Massdrop) before throwing away their money. This light is *extremely* unreliable and breaks all the time. All. The. Time. Even worse, if you try to get help from Massdrop, they will "kindly" advise you that the light actually does not have a warranty! Pathetic.

The tail cap switch has serious quality issues. My flashlight just over a year old, turned on randomly by itself and drained the battery. When I put a new battery in, it wont work anymore. Definitely not worth the $30. Read the discussions, this is a recurring theme. Massdrop will do absolutely nothing to fix this. Pass on this pos.

I really like the Nichia LED. The clip falls off the flashlight too easily, and it was terrible at staying in my pocket. After 20 days of use, the light became unreliable. It would change brightness, turn off, turn on at random. Complete waste of money. It did sell me on Nichia LEDs though, and now I'm quite fond of Manker lights. Massdrop lost my business permanently after this piece of trash.

bSciGuyThats fine, but this is massdrop made, works so well and convienent for me. Sorry you didnt like it. NO need to rag on massdrop for cheapo flashlight drop they have massdrop/audio company collabs to focus on so its nice enough they've expanded so large to get stuff like this out.

Great for awhile
Had this light since the first drop. Stopped working a couple months ago. No visible corrosion on the contacts, new batteries, nothing. Kinda bummed as it was just starting to patina.

I disassembled the full thing after a AAA battery leaked acid all over the insides, and the battery acid destroyed the button switch board. Seeing as how others have had issues with the button switch dying, here's a nice trick to continue using the flashlight without the button switch. Make sure the LED isn't what is broken first! As others have mentioned, there is a button end and the LED end, and both ends are screwed onto the middle barrel. Unscrew the button end. The button end has the battery contact spring. There is some sort of loctite, so you may need some pliers to unscrew it. After unscrewing it, inside the button end threading, there is a metal ring with 2 holes. That metal ring is threaded and screwed into the button end threads. I used needle nose picks like chopsticks to unscrew the metal ring. May take some force to get it started, but once you do, you just need 1 pick to twist it all the way out. Once the metal retaining ring is gone, you can push the button hard to push out the control circuit board with the battery contact spring. I suspect an issue is that the button or the on-board soldered battery is dead. I ripped out the tiny soldered on battery with my needle nose pick. From there, get rid of the black rubber ring glued around the battery contact spring. Be sure to clean up as much of the glued rubber residue as possible. Next, I took a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil twisted it into the battery contact spring, getting it as close to the control board as possible. Make sure the foil connects the battery spring metal to the outer ring metal of the control board, and get the foil twisted as flat towards the board as possible. Trim off the excess foil so that the control board slides back in easily. Finally, put the control circuit board back into the button end cap like how you took it out, and tightly screw back in the metal retaining ring. Make sure the retaining ring starts screwing back in easily until it starts tightening to avoid destroying the threading. The ring is used to complete the circuit with the foil. Re-assemble the rest of the flash light. The goal is for the foil to be squeezed between the metal retaining ring and the control board outer metal ring. When the battery contact spring is squeezed by the battery being fully inserted, electrical current will flow through the flashlight casing metal to the retaining ring to the foil to the spring and into the battery. This bypasses the button switch control board. How the circuit works is basically: electricity flows from the battery to the LED to the flashlight metal case to the button switch circuit and back into the battery. If you did it right, you basically got a twist switched flash light! I tighten the battery end and just twist the LED end to turn on/off the flashlight. It seems the LED end has whatever does the 3 light modes, so you still keep the dimming feature! Note, it may no longer be water proof anymore after all this disassembly and the need to keep the LED end sightly untightened. Also, depending on how much you untighten the LED end, you can push the button kind of hard to complete the circuit too, but it will turn off right when you depress the button.
