It's a nice light but, has one major flaw. You have have to cycle the light on, then off, then on, then off, then on then off to change modes. Also, Medium is probably not necessary. With 1 full click it should go max brightness. With 1 full click, 1 partial click moonlight mode. To get to moonlight, mode, why would want to turn on and off the flashlight 5x to get to it? Other lights can be programmed. Some come with a pre-programmed set of light brightnesses that can be altered such as 1 tap for full, 2 taps for medium, 3 taps for low, 4 taps for flash. 1 full tap to stay on. I guess, I'm expecting Massdrop to produce a light that is more flexible. Or simpler. Either programmable and changeable so you get the light patterns you want, or simpler and just be max bright ness only.

this is just a bad take - this isn’t a gun light or something to be used as a weaponlight or in an emergency. there are lots of lights out there (not made of copper and with much higher capacity batteries) that fit those situations. this is more ‘i need to take a piss in the middle of the night but don’t want to turn the lights on’.
starting on high ruins night vision

I wish this light was programmable, and that an extra-low "firefly" mode could be activated by default. I own an L3 Illumination L10 Nichia 219, and love that I was able to purchase it with 4 modes of output which turn on in order of XL-L-M-H, which are 0.09, 3, 30, and 120 lumens. They call the extra-low setting "firefly" mode, and I frequently use it since it's still plenty of light in a dark indoor room, is much less likely to disturb my roommates, and apparently lets the battery last way longer! They quote battery times with a 2500mAh Ni-MH AA battery as 147hr on firefly mode, and 1.5hr on high mode. Obviously that's a AA battery flashlight and this Massdrop is for a AAA battery flashlight so completely different category, but I love the firefly mode feature and the potential ability for programming the modes!

NatthawutSo jelly! I am holding out hope that Lumintop will release that blue titanium in a AA variety someday. It's such a beautiful light! It's cool how you can easily see which ones have the Cree vs the Nichia LED. I find I appreciate the colors of the Nichia.

Which color would you buy? Cree or Nichia? And why???

as a photographer....the Nichia is almost a must have. the colour under blueish cree light is just unbearable. the depth of view is just terrible, everything looks like in 2D under the blue tone. the blue light has much high reflect effect in the air, that is why it looks 'brighter'. The warm light can out perform the cool white any day of the week even it looks not as 'bright'. the detail and colour correctness are way more important for a light to me than the lumens.

Hugo_YCREE. Got the Nichia in the last (blue Ti) drop. It's nice, but noticeably dimmer than the CREE in my Massdrop copper. This will be slick... wifey can take the blue Ti model, and I'll continue my collection of copper bits and bobs.

So this is basically the Lumintop Copper Tool with a Ti Tool's end cap? Nice.
For those with questions on the natural patina. This is how my Cu Tool looks after about 8 months of daily pocket carry. The forward facing tail cap you see is a little less patinaed because it sits outside of my pocket and I use my lanyard to pull the light out.

My slightly modified Lumintop tool which I have been using daily for over a year. The little one has never let me down, the perfect EDC.

Hey everyone,
Based on the success of the AAA Brass and AAA Blue Titanium lights, and the community's interest in other copper lights, we've brought back one of the most popular "Massdrop-Made" items in a new style.
Copper is a favorite material, due to its good looks when new or with a patina, and also it's excellent heat dispersion properties. In addition to the difference in housing material, this AAA light is also the first to feature a Nichia 219C LED, which is 6% brighter than it's predecessor, the 219B, and also more efficient.
There are only 1000 pieces available in this drop - which are all in the warehouse and available for immediate shipping after the drop ends. Thanks to everyone who joined the drops for past AAA lights and made this possible! Whether this is your first AAA light or just the newest one in your collection, we hope you enjoy it!

Will these handle 10440 cells?
legopika

Jan 26, 2018
no, NI-MH cells like eneloops will work a 10440 is a li-ion cell, so it runs at a nominal voltage of 3.7v, as opposed to an alkaline with 1.5v, and NI-MH at 1.2v

legopikalegopika is correct. All flashlights should have a voltage range listed. If you want a flashlight in single AA or single AAA form factor that could take either alkaline or rechargeable Lithium batteries, the voltage range should be 0.9V-4.2V (or wider). The high end of the range to cover a fully charged Li ion, and the lower end so that as an alkaline drains and the voltage drops, it will still keep working.
I’ve been waiting for a copper version of this light. Thanks for making this happen.

Hugo_Ypatina...one big attraction of copper lights
johnny304

Jan 26, 2018
Hugo_YIts a patina, it does not affect the structural integrity of the metal, it is only surface deep, but otherwise, it occurs in the same manner as rust, but a patina wont leave any residue on your hands. You can also artificially induce a patina, and give it some cool pattern, such as the hard boiled egg method, which uses the acids and ammonia in an egg to produce a cool patterned patina.

For those not delighted with natural Patina, you can disassemble the light, and dip the copper pieces into a silver polish or Tarn-X for a few seconds. Rinse with water, and it will be back to its‘ pristine bright finish.

glennacIs it really necessary to dissassemble the light to do that? I ask this as I think it is perhaps safer to avoid liquids get into electronics

TDELEONWell, I suppose, since it is water-resistant, perhaps not. But I’m not sure I’d want to chance it so would personally isolate the copper parts first. Then thoroughly see that it is dry before reassembling.
