What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

The Ctrl feels like a high quality product. The solid aluminium body feels great, absolutely no flex, bend or bow here. Reading other reviews I totally agree with the consensus "you could kill someone with it", Its an absolute unit! There is very little wobble of the keys and the stabilisers feel good too.
Shipping and presentation On receiving my keyboard the actual Ctrl product packaging was very professional and aesthetically pleasing, however the shipping box it came in was flimsy and busted up in a couple of places. Luckily there were air pillows included in the shipping box, so i'm pretty confided that the board didn't sustain any damage during delivery, however a nicer shipping box for future products wouldn't go to waste.
RGB LED QC issues Reading other reviews made me a little nervous regarding the overall quality of the RGB LED's on this product. I was a little disappointed to read and see that there seems to have been so many issues with overall finished quality. My unit adds to this list also. I have a single RED LED in the LED skirt of the board that is not functioning. Overall its not a horrific defect, however in the future I would like to see more effort put into ironing out these issues especially in a premium product like the Ctrl. I will be contacting support regarding my issue.
Update I would also like to add that James from Massdrop support has been of great assistance in taking my feedback to engineering and sorting out my LED issue. Thanks buddy!
Summary 4.5 / 5 Stars due to QC issues on my board. Very happy otherwise. Excellent support!
Yes, after some to and fro with with support, James offered to RMA my unit.
