What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

- there is a defect on the case, not a nick/scratch, more like physical damage that occurred - RGB customization is not what I would have hoped, have to flash firmware for certain colors until software is released - magnetic feet seem like a nice idea, but the feet tend to come off if you slide the keyboard on a desk mat without picking it up - little too lightweight for my taste - keycaps felt really rough, was already going to replace them, but definitely not comfortable and very distracting while typing - they include a wire keycap puller, but its extremely low quality; the handle unscrews to become an allen wrench, but the fit is so loose it just pops out and is unusable as a handle, therefore unusable as keycap puller
Doesn't feel like $200 is the right price point for what was put out, in terms of the finished product and quality assurance. Hopefully they put more attention into the ALT keyboard.
At this point you'll have obviously lost your ellen wrench, but usually you don't need it -- and if you do, chances are you have one at home.
