Hi everyone,
We’re checking in to let you know the Massdrop CTRL Mechanical Keyboard is making its way through production! We’ve received the latest CTRL keyboard from the manufacturer and we’re very happy with the outcome. Look below for some photos of the sample: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-ctrl-mechanical-keyboard/talk
We’re on track to meet our estimated ship date of August 15, and we’ll update everyone in early August with the status of the shipment.
frewtloopsYou can attach the magnetic feet on backwards or forwards. Some people prefer to add a negative tilt to their keyboard while others prefer the classic setup.
frewtloopsI think the CTRL keyboard allows a negative tilt where the feet are placed in the front of the keyboard instead of the back. It is more ergonomic for some users.
YanboWuLooks great!
How is the firmware/software coming along? I know the software improvements were meant to not only improve the CTRL but help for support of other user made products with QMK. I've been looking at designing a custom PCB of my own and wondered what features are having universal support.
YanboWu@YanboWu Really looking forward to the product and the pictures look great.
One of my favorite features of the CTRL is that QMK firmware allows many layers to specify layouts/macros? The number of layers is jointly determined by the chipset's memory and the size of layer definitions.
So that I can form some expectations about the maximum number of layers possible, how much memory does the chipset chosen for the CTRL have?
illharrisDepends how this goes. If it's like a lot of the recent "Massdrop made" they will eventually just carry these in stock to sell. If you don't want to wait, the Canvas CTRL is currently running. If your heart is set on the grey from the original CTRL, I'm sure there is someone out there who bought an original CTRL that wants the white housing from the Canvas CTRL, but already purchased one. Go on /r/mechmarket and I'm sure someone would trade you.
illharrisOn these continuous, long-cycle drops, the next drop is usually scheduled 2-3 weeks after they've completed fulfillment of the current/prior drop. Don't expect anything for CTRL before end of August or early September.
GurmukhISO-CTRL would be a new board with a unique SKU. When the switch plate is integrated with the case top as it is in CTRL, you can't just add ISO support and call it good. It would leave huge holes in the case and destroy the aesthetic. This board is designed for a very specific layout.
Given the historically poor community support for ISO on Massdrop, I doubt they would take the risk on a new design with a fixed ISO layout. But stranger things have happened... This might be a better fit with the high-profile version, where the raised case edges can help preserve the sightlines of the board.
