Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. I'm working on a more complete response to address those concerns but wanted to jump in with a photo to show that the colors are indeed different and not silver. For those of you that are still waiting on your shipment.
If only two people complain about it we can treat it as personal aesthetics difference, but if most people were able to notice the difference in their first impression, it is just silly to keep debating the color as if it is the case of blue or black dress. It is not, it is a lighter keyboard.
However, I understand how hard it is to make things and maintain "Made by Massdrop" quality standard, so I look forward to know more about what went wrong. Let's have a two way conversations and I believe everyone wants to see MD making better and better keyboards, which benefits all of us in the community.
