So I tried to flash the board with compiled software from the online configurator, and it seems to have bricked the board a single dim red led is on underneath the arrow keys, and pressing the reset button doesnt seem to work. Right after I installed my dev/tty/ caps too.... Any tips? If I try to reflash it I get an error saying "Error: Could not open firmware file for read!"

Kirbstompunplugging and plugging back in after pressing the reset button makes the keyboard go back to normal for me. The keyboard is not supposed to work right after pressing the reset button. You have to use another keyboard to type the command to flash the firmware.
Also make sure your firmware file is in the same folder as your mdloader.

kxrider85Well I realized my issue: I accidentally flashed the applet-flash instead of the compiled code... Not sure if I can do anything about that or not. I left it unplugged for about two hours and tried again and got the same results.

KirbstompSo you're still getting an error when you try to flash the correct firmware?

kxrider85I cant flash anything, unless Im trying the wrong firmware. Every time I try to flash I get an error, all of the other checks the mdloader goes through work fine, aside from the flashing error in my original comment.

To be clear, your files are organized like this, right: mdloader, applet flash, and your firmware (massdrop_ctrl_config....) all in the same folder.
If I recall correctly, the command to flash the firmware is `mdloader_windows.exe --port [port number] --download [firmwareName]`
For example, mine would be `mdloader_windows.exe --port COM3 --download massdrop_ctrl_config_CTRL_with_numpad_325.bin`
This won't work unless your firmware is in the same folder as mdloader and applet flash, as it is in the picture above.

kxrider85Yes, I have everything in the same folder and have used that command, that's what I used originally when I flashed the applet instead if the massdrop Ctrl bin

Kirbstomp.... and its in reset mode when you try to flash it right?
I can't imagine that you bricked your keyboard or something. There must be something you are missing. Maybe try flashing the default firmware.

kxrider85Yeah, I press reset and a single dimly lit red led turns on on the skirt strip under the arrow keys. And what do you mean by default firmware? I've compiled the default present from the configurator and tried to flash that and received the same error. Unless there is a firmware on GitHub somewhere I haven't found I'm not sure what else to do here. I've yet to hear back from massdrop regarding this issue either.

KirbstompThe dim red light is supposed to be there (its always on as long as there is 5V power coming through usb). There is a default firmware on github (along with every other qmk keyboard) but it is not compiled so you will have to figure out how to do that. The default firmware off of massdrop's configurator should be the same though. It is very strange that you haven't been able to get the default firmware to work. I'm not really sure what to make of that. Good luck though.

kxrider85So I used mdloader to get a .bin of the firmware already on the board (read_firmware.bin), and got that to write to the board without error, but every other .bin I try has given the same error.... Massdrop themselves were also no help, telling me "We do not have the technical knowledge to help with this issue, please seek help on the community boards". The only real help was offering me return services, to which they have since not replied back to me.

kxrider85Well.... upon more troubleshooting I found my issue.... I am actually dumb and have been leaving a single underscore off of the .bin whenever I try and flash the board. Looked really hard at the file name and saw that. Tried typing that and it worked first try! Thanks for the help along the way though, you've done more to help than the actual company that sold me the board.

KirbstompLol... I'm really glad you got it working. Typos are really a pain. Not surprised Massdrop customer service wasn't too helpful. They probably have their hands full with these QC issues. Kind of their fault of course...
