Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. No matter what I pick on Layer 0, it replaces every every preset on Layer 0, and I can only use my custom color. To see the presets I have to hold down the Fn key. It let's my cycle through the presets, but as soon as I let go of the Fn key it will only show my custom color.
If I try to do the same thing on Layer 1, I can only view the default presets. My custom color is only displayed while I am holding down the Fn key. It switches back to the presets as soon as I let go of Fn. Also, when on Layer 1 I can switch through the different presets, but I can't actually see them while cycling through them, it only shows the custom color the entire time I am holding down Fn.
Here's a gif I made with my custom green on Layer 1: https://i.imgur.com/4Y9VEmD.gifv
I have no idea what I am doing wrong, but any help would be appreciated. Massdrop has refused to help me in this matter. I think choosing a basic color with no effects should be something that's included by default. I'm not asking for fancy effects or anything. Literally just a new color. If it comes with $30 RGB mechs, it should come with a premium board without having to spend hours researching convoluted firmware flashing.
