Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, do I need to remove the back plate when swapping my switches? My friend had some box jades lying around and I'm not sure how to go about getting them in

NathanCVIINot as far as I know. You use the U shaped tool that came in the box to remove them. You would pinch the switch at the top and bottom and then pull until it comes out. Removing the keycaps helps you see what you are doing. The tool should fit easily though.
