I'm looking for some input on the switch choice. I already joined the drop, selecting the Halo True switches (I have no idea if I can change this before the drop closes tbh). Then, I noticed that the switches have a quite high "bottom out" force. While that feels like a nice training to avoid pressing the switch all the way down while typing (which I should be doing most of the time), I started to wonder if that would be tiring for my fingers while attempting to play games in those switches. Then I noticed that halo clears have a way lower bottoming out force, even while it has a higher tactile peak force. Should I be worried and change the switches (maybe to halo clears)? I'm mostly used to mx blues and its clones, but I want to ditch the loud typing and try to have a quieter typing now. Linear doesn't seem to be my thing, so I'm willing to attempt tactile switches. (Unfortunately, I won't be able to try any of those before I buy). I really appreciate input regarding the matter, even thought I know at the end it depends on personal taste :) Thanks in advance!

TheZocI started out in this hobby with MX Reds and MX Browns, but soon found myself looking for something heavier. I tried MX Clears and though I initially found them to be heavy and fatiguing, I grew to like them after getting used to them. After 4+ years of trying the various switches that have since hit the market, I have settled on tactile switches that bottom out in the 67 - 70g range. That's not to say I dislike all else, but that those are my preferred characteristics. So, if you do go with Halo switches, be it Clears or Trues, I'd recommend that you give yourself some time to get used to them before making a judgement call on whether or not they're for you. Ultimately, neither you nor I will know if you'll like them until you try them, but the good news is that the CTRL has hot-swap sockets that allow you to change your switches easily should you decide that Halo switches are too heavy for you.

@Elbert Thanks for your input! I want a soft transition from what I'm used to use to something else. Unfortunately, I'm in a position where I won't be able to swap them for a while, so I'm trying to pick those who resemble what I currently use (unfortunately, razer greens kailih, first batch), that's why I'm a bit worried. Also, I know I'm not a fan or linear, and I've read too often the halo trues are almost linear ><. Still, if no damage can occur to my body/hands, then I won't worry as much - and this is probably my biggest concern. Thank you very much! I'm excited to try the CTRL keyboard, just a bit anxious/nervous about the switches :) PS: Please, if you have more info to aid me, with what I just said, I appreciate if you could enlighten me a bit more :D

TheZocConsider getting the Cherry's instead if available. There's a double tap key issue for the Halos for some people. Mine is Halo Clears. I loved them, but the issue came to the point that is so annoying and you dont want to use it for typing anymore. On my case, it manifested after 6 months.

TheZoc@TheZoc MX Browns are always a safe choice. Most people end up moving away from them for various reasons, but they remain a good starting point. Clickyness aside, the overall characteristics are fairly similar between the two switches. https://www.cherrymx.de/_Resources/Persistent/e005dff11a2e406babe9e8718fec9fc8835bb9ce/EN_CHERRY_MX_BLUE_RGB.pdf

ivandatuUnfortunately, cherries are only available without keycaps. While I find that silly, I don't have spare keycaps here :( I thought the double tap issue was related to the switch<->pcb contact. So, the issue is directly with the switches themselves? :(

Unfortunately, Cherry MX browns aren't offered with the keycaps :( Also, they're out of stock too :(

TheZocWe have more on the way. And while not ideal, another option is to buy a variant with keycaps, source your own Brown switches, and swap them in.

Thank you very much! I'll try to get started with halo trues and I hope to like them. Not having the caps with the Cherry MX options is a deal breaker for me, since I'm just getting started. Is there any reason other than being more expensive to not including the caps with the MX? (Sorry to ask this and I apologize if this question has been asked multiple times. As someone starting with better keyboards, I'd rather have a fully working kit than having to assemble something with parts from different sources) Thank you again for your help and support! :D

TheZocWe wanted to test out some offerings that excluded keycaps, but it's clear that most people would prefer to have them bundled.

Please consider an MX Blue with keycap option.
