I love how people always find things to complain about... How can this be anything but awesome? If you were in the market looking at the Aeon Flow Open V1, this new Drop product just gave you an instant $150 discount at a minimum and also gave you improved pads and tweaking on the headphone you were already interested in... AND its available NOW... you don't have to wait months for it to ship like previous (Mass)Drop releases. Of course Dan Clark Audio isn't going to release a Drop collab equivalent to the Aeon Flow Open V2 for nearly half the price a month after they announced their own new version... because that would be corporate suicide and a one way ticket to butchering their brand new product - and profits. This is obviously not going to be as good as the V2, but its also $400 less than the V2. I think this will give some serious competition to other headphones in the $500 price point, especially when these inevitably go on sale for $400 months down the road. I am seriously considering grabbing this myself to compliment my Drop Ether CX headphone which is an incredible set of cans. Well either this or the Aeon Flow V2, as I would be willing to pay the extra for the new revision. Thank you Drop and Dan Clark Audio for continuing to make these exclusive offerings to us at incredible price points - I appreciate the products that you collaborate and release, don't listen to the Trolls.

Muscle_CowI love the fact that people have forgotten what a discussion forum is. This is a product that we can discuss what we like and dislike about said product. People are commenting on a item not a person. When we start labeling people as trolls and haters (as others have on the forum) then people won't feel free to express themselves. Yes drop is great to offer this product. Buy it if you like. This product will go on even if people complain about it, but that's not the point of a discussion forum.

Z0d1AcThe Elear is on of the best current HiFi deals hands down. You truly are getting a TOTL headphone for a very reasonable price. The current bundles are also insane with the hard case and choice of (Utopia!) pads. Only thing they're missing is a balanced cable and that would round out just about everything one needs from an amazing open headphone.

jaydunndiddit@Z0d1Ac I agree, the Focal Elear for the current bundle price of $600 (before any possible discounts) on the other site(s) is insane and hard to beat. I seriously love my Elear with the Utopia pads on it and I don't think I'll ever get rid of that set - it is just so damn enjoyable to listen to. @Moonsand1 I also agree, we need to be able to discuss our opinions and give constructive criticism where applicable. I am more talking about people who bash a new release with a stupid one liner which serves zero purpose other than the person just spreading unnecessary negativity with no real point in mind. Not just in particular to this drop release, but others as well. But I mean this release is nothing but a Win for those who were already considering an Aeon Open as this wasn't meant to rival the new series coming out - I'll gladly take this discounted improved offering over nothing at all.

Muscle_CowI'm in the same boat as you having the Ether CX already. I'm desperately fighting the urge to get these! This is definitely a "want" more than a "need". I love how Drop collaborates with different vendors with updated older designs that are re-tuned in cost effective ways. I certainly wouldn't have thought of partially fenestrated earpads. If they had included the folding mechanism from the 2's I'd have already hit the buy button!!!

MaverickAHThese look so damn attractive on that lady's head too... very sharp looking cans. I know man, it's almost always WANTS not needs in this hobby haha. Might have to tell my CC to block charges from Drop, no self restraint! The v2 have the same pad design too apparently so they got a little flavour from there.

Muscle_CowTo complement your Ether CX, I would honestly recommend you the ERA-1 by Quad, which are Stax-like Planars. $800, sure, though they are, simply stated, GODLY.

KhronusYou are the second person to mention that exact set... damnit now I need to read up on it :> Comparing it to the HifiMan Arya's sound - any experience there?

Muscle_CowSoundnews compared the Arya against the Era, The Arya won though not by a tremendous margin. The Era One seems to be the pinnacle of the point of diminishing returns.

KhronusI own the Quad ERA-1, the Focal Elex & the Ether CX. The ERA-1 & the Elex have been in my company for over a year now & I've just finished the burn-in on the Ether CX. I plan on doing a comparison some time next month. It won't be a "which is better" comparison. It will be more along the lines of detailing the characteristics of each. There are differences but I honestly don't think that you can go wrong with any of them. I will say that the Quads are like sitting in the dark with a glass of cognac in your hand listening to a high end system or going to Carnegie Hall or one of the older music halls in NYC. They're just very musical which is a trait of a lot of the better British/European gear. You just stop worrying about the technical & just enjoy......

Muscle_Cowhad the bundle, immediately returned it for a pair of Elex. no matter what pads I used on the Elex, they always sounded off and clipped during any kind of deep bass. Got tired of them and returned them with the pads. got the Elex and couldn’t be happier, and I am almost certain there was actual changes in the dampening because they sound different.

KhronusMy Arya just got to me today and.... Constant chills. I absolutely love these - and I love what $ I got them for. If these get better with break in... my head will explode into heavenly dust. All my other new headphones should be jealous, and scared.

buddhasbellyHonestly... I can see why. I've only had one night with it and I'm at work and all I want to do is go home and listen to it. I love it so much. If HifiMan stepped up their build quality a little bit, they would be a serious force to be reckoned with.

Muscle_CowYeah I don't mind the headband much as I find it comfortable but the swivel hinge for the cups leaves a lot to desire. I don't think there's much that can compete with the resolution and clarity of the Arya unless you want to spend $2.5-$3k. Even there will see minimal improvements. The Arya is just so damn airy, spacious, WITH a deep rumbling bass that makes it a unicorn in the realm of headphones. The only other piece of hifi I have is m Audeze LCD i4, which I find similar to the Arya, just a bit darker. I need a closed back companion but haven't found anything that I could settle with.

Muscle_CowI think it’s the same for any of us Arya owners. I can’t think of a headphone that can replace it since it not only has sound stage but layering. I remember hearing a xylophone in a song (Gustaberg) from a MMO I play (FFXI) and I could actually hear what sounded like the Xylophone was off on my 2 o clock but closer sitting than the rest of the orchestra. I was just like wow… you can even tell the distance and position of the instruments apart from each other in a song or piece depending on the quality of the track. Regardless it is INSANE. They are also the best gaming headphones I’ve owned Period. Nothing has dethroned them. The Elex was good but these are in a completely different ballpark.
