FrndShould be any day now. Drop closed the pre-sale early last week presumably because they got the production run, so they are shipping the pre-orders and will open it up for new sales. I expect to see it probably tomorrow (Monday) but maybe they'll take another day or two.
derhpThey'll be in stock. Should be any day now. Drop closed the pre-sale early for the 1P last week, which indicates the batch has arrived (since it is not sold out). I expect they are shipping out the pre-orders now and we'll see them re-open it soon - hopefully tomorrow.
derhpThe regular price of the X-Mid 1P has been $200 since it was launched in 2018. Now Drop has moved the regular price up $20 (from $200 -> $220).
I'm not involved with their pricing decisions but likely that modest increase reflects that (1) the tent now includes premium titanium V stakes that are more expensive, (2) costs slowly rise over time, and (3) the X-Mid 1P has always been priced very low so Drop likely doesn't make much on these. They're built at the same premium factory as MSR and likely more expensive to build than most competing tents, such as those from Gossamer Gear and TarpTent, yet the X-Mid is still about $100 less than most competitors.
For example, a close competitor is the TarpTent StratoSpire 1, which is also a double wall tent built overseas at a high end factory. The X-Mid is likely more expensive to produce since we pay extra for seam taping, plus use dual coated fabrics yet the price is far lower at $220 vs $325. So at $220 the X-Mid 1P is still an outstanding value. Any other tent at this price point is much lower quality materials and construction, and probably also saving costs by omitting features (e.g. vents) and being singlewall.
4-GREENThey were $200, during BF last year and over new years they were $180. Drop were also doing $20 credit for new members last year so I heard some people were picking them up for $160. I imagine drop might have been making a loss at that point.
