Excellent, lightweight tent at a nearly unbeatable price
I've used this tent extensively over the past year and have really enjoyed it. The craftsmanship, materials and design are all top notch and for the price, it is an incredible value. There are lighter, more durable or larger tents on the market, but I feel this really strikes an excellent balance for a 3+ season tent for most people in most situations. I have used it with the inner and while snug, I don't find it restrictive using a 77"x25" air pad. I have room to store small personal items in the area above my head or at my feet. The rest of my gear easily fits underneath the huge verstibules. I've also used it quite often with a simple polycro groundsheet without the inner during the winter. It is a PALACE for one under these conditions. Really enjoy the huge space when using it in fly only mode. The silploy material is very nice and repels rain and snow very well. The pitch is easy and forgiving and using all of the guyout points, you can really make it storm worthy. I've pitched it on snow without issue and it really sheds wind and rain well. It's not a mountaineering tent but has been all that I need in the winter and probably would work for most below treeline. I'm hopeful that Dan's plans for some modular add ons come soon as I will be first in line for anything X-Mid related. A groundsheet that could replace the polycro I'm using would be top of my list and a solid inner would be nice in deep winter conditions. 5/5 - Highly recommend!

grimm0614Thanks for the kind review! I am working on some X-Mid accessories. I have factory built footprints in the works that will be out in June. Interested people can sign up here to receive a notice when they are on sale: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1KWaoYJZ5oeyzu-pqRQT_kyxIBrHBLmBhrafw6Eggn7g I am also working on an inner only pitching kit that will be plug 'n play. Out in April/May: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1b8LOp0TOaoytSbUZV7oIcT0-xn-zF-fZpjGUGP77YMM Both of those will be sold on DurstonGear.com, so signing up for the mailing list there is also a good way to stay in the loop. A solid inner is further off but I'm actively working on finding a way to make it happen. Not certain of timelines at this point, but I'd like to have that for next winter.

dandurstonThanks Dan, signed up for both! Not sure what the footprint will look like, but a bathtub floor for the entire usable space under the fly would be another great modular piece. While I have you... ;) My X-mid that I got circa January 2019 is starting to show some frayed guylines and I was looking to replace them with some longer line at the 4 corners. Any recommendations? My version does not have the updated hardware.
grimm0614Footprint is just going to cover under the floor. I know there's a few ways people would like it, but can't offer too many versions at first due to high minimum order quantities. For the cord, I am working with Lawson Equipment on some custom 2.5mm cord that is the same diameter is yours but is lower stretch and more importantly has some dyneema woven into the sheath so it's quite a bit tougher. We're still early in development so hard to say exactly how things will turn out, but I hope to have that available in the spring on DurstonGear.com. If you want something sooner, Lawson has some nice cords like his IronWire and GloWire available now.

dandurstonCool, Durston Gear is really picking up. Awesome to hear. I’ll make due until you come out with that. Want to make sure my X-Mid is on brand ;) Good luck with everything!

dandurstonHi Dan, so the xmid inner sold by drop now has not the only inner pitch option? I would like also to know if you are planning to sell on durstongear a dyneema fly in the future.
coscinoThe current X-Mid (and all X-Mid's) can pitch inner only. It's just a bit of a hassle because you have to tie a few knots and steal the guylines off the fly (or buy new ones). Basically you remove the peak guylines from the fly, tie them to the inner peaks, tie loops for the poles tips, and then stake out the inner and add the poles. So a few knots and there's no easy cord tensioner to fine tune. My kits will work with any X-Mid sold to date and will have a matching buckle so you have a separate set of guylines that clip right on with a grommet, tensioner etc. I'd like to offer dyneema in the future but unclear right now when that'll be. I won't have any in 2021. If I do dyneema, I'd probably start with a singlewall version so there is less overlap between the products, so it wouldn't be a dyneema fly for current X-Mid's - at least not at the beginning.
