Product Description
Designed to be the best double-wall solo shelter supported by trekking poles, the X-Mid is the brainchild of Dan Durston, an experienced thru-hiker and established member of the ultralight community. It aims to solve the common issues seen in trekking-pole-supported tents: Most are single-trekking-pole pyramids, which lack headroom, or overly complex multi-pole designs, which are tedious to pitch Read More

For first gen X Mid 1, I have the reverse tekking pole tip issue. On my Black Diamond Z poles I prefer the rubber tip (quiter on rocky surfaces, no clackety clack). The tips just barely wont fit in the grommet. Arg. Considered drilling out internal diameter of the grommet, but pretty sure there isnt much extra material there. Maybe remove some of the rubber off the tip, but suspect its durability and longevity will plummet once compromised. Anyway, anyone found an ingenius solution to this side of the tip/grommet relationship? Other than use handle end - I like the stability of tip thru grommet. ;^) Although it looks like its in grommet enough in picutre, its barely seated and tends to pop out when tension put on it.

Hi @dandurston
I took my 2p tent out to face the bitter cold of the UP last winter. I spent a nice sleeping on snow and ice. When I was finished though the tent wound up getting soaked through. Drying a tent in February in Wisconsin proved to be tough for an apartment dweller such as myself.
When I pulled my tent out this year, the fly and floor of the tent were decorated pretty well with mold spots. I know that this tent isn't supposed to perform miracles. I'd hope to do better in the future.
Any advice you could give on reversing some of the damage? My tent only got to see 4 outings and I really love it.
I saw the advice you already gave to @KyleG82, but any additional words of wisdom would be much appreciated.
I am looking at building a DIY pole set for bikepacking. Dan posted earlier about using the carbon fiber pole segments sold by Quest Outfitters. Would the new Easton Syclone poles work better or worse than the 6.3 CF ones?
Just to update here, I did order a custom set of poles from Ruta Locura, and they are fantastic and were shipped out the day after I ordered. I went with 47" in 4 sections. I even forgot to ask for spikes but he shipped some out to me for free after I asked about ordering them separately. I highly recommend Ruta Locura -- excellent products and crazy fast service.
I hope it is ok to start this topic here -- how do you deal with mosquitoes buzz? The problem for me is while I am safe from biting lying inside, when there are a lot the mosquitoes, their flying around are noisy enough to keep me awake in night. I tried ear plugs but they don't work quite well -- at the extreme I am starting to hear my own heart, and when I keep them loose -- I hear buzz again. If you experienced this problem, how do to you deal with it?
Hi. I'm trying to decide between the 1 vs 2P. I've read in other posts about most people being quite happy with the 1P because of the vestibules. My question is, practically speaking, is one vestibule area large enough to fit and protect the backpack and boots, etc.? Thanks.
