A little sizing suggestions? Before I was married, I always bought size 32” jeans, but for the past two years I’d had to buy 34 waist x 32 length jeans from Banana Republic. I saw someone suggest measuring the waist of your current jeans to see your size. Well, I grabbed a tape measure: the size 34 waist pants and my bare waist are about 37 real inches in circumference. I’m 6’1” tall. I’m sorry to ask the same question that everyone does (believe me, I read through a bunch of comments), but I didn’t see others post their actual waist inches and buying luxury-priced jeans sight-unseen (and I usually try on a few $40-$60 jeans before actually purchasing) makes me too nervous to jump.

erickongNot asking for your personal dimensions, but if you take a tape measure to your hips/jeans circumference, do you find that measurement to match the “waist” measurement on the sizing chart for the size you have? Its so tough/nerve wracking to buy jeans online, sight unseen. And I assume the usual Drop policy of No Returns is in effect even if they don’t fit? I’ve never had to return anything from Drop before... but these are clothes!

EvshrugI just measured my hips with a tape. A little over 33 inches. And the jeans that I have are 32x34

erickongHuh. Maybe I measured wrong? Because I wear 34x32 (or 34 if available), used to wear 32’s, but my waist became wider. Maybe I gained even more weight since I last bought pants, and all my current ones stretched to fit? Edit: Just measured my waist again, since last time on these forums I gained an inch. Sooooo I'm just getting fat. Too much work stress I guess! Hopefully things stop fluctuating soon.

EvshrugMost commercial jeans are at least +2" in the waist. I find the more mainstream the brand - usually the more vanity sized. I'm the guy who goes to a department store and takes ten Size 32's to the dressing room and specs the measurements. 3-4" is commonplace vanity sizing and the more successful the jean on the sales floor, usually the more vanity sized the jean. To your question - get a tape measure + use our measurement chart and your favorite fitting pair of jeans and you should get the size you want. ++Please feel to reach out to me if you have questions about anything denim in nature!

EvshrugSounds about right @Evshrug. Most jeans are vanity-sized; 32-sized denim will fit 36" waist most of the time (TH, BR, CK...). Unfortunately there is no consensus, and worse, some brands aren't even consistent internally. I think The drop denim will be sized closer to reality, 32 size will fit 35" waist. So for 38" real inches you'd go with a size 35.

erickongHo ho ho! Isn’t there a thing about how women try to comfort their mate so they don’t want to leave, and try to fatten them up a bit so the other women know he’s off the market?
