If they're going on the 58x, there's a definite noticeable increase in bass, and likewise a bit softened mids and highs. I actually prefer the sound change as i use them mostly for gaming and movies, and music just on the occasion. I can see avid music listeners not being a huge fan of the sound change as it is quite a bit deeper... almost cinematic in a way. Also, these block out outside noise much more than the stock pads which i hadn't heard anyone else mentioned and was one of the first things i noticed. Overall i'd say it is a slight upgrade to the stock pads, but does change the sound significantly. Hope that helps.
themusicHi, which pad type are you specifically refering to please? Im interested especially in the improvement in blocking outside noise that you mention, and wondering if the fenestrated ones are also good at blocking out outside noise
Marty-0If they’re loud enough they’ll “block out” sounds...but these headphones generally aren’t the type you’d use to be blocking out sounds to begin with. Hope it helps.
For the hybrid pads with the 6xx, absolutely. Recessed highs, increased bass and sub-bass. It turns Sennheiser's slightly warm, relaxed sound into a VERY warm, properly veiled sound imo. I didn't like it, it felt too warm and almost like a closed-back to me with how much air was sucked out of the highs.
For the 6XX: Yes, they do. Sub-bass is increased, but bass in general feels somewhat bloatier. Highs (and maybe mids) got a little bit receded, thus some detail is lost. The headphone now sounds more laid-back. Maybe this is will be mitigated when the pad's foam starts to wear out.
YES. I've tried them on both the 58x and 6xx. The 58x is already more bass-forward, and adding the velour pads with denser foam compared to stock pads made them too muddy for my taste. On the 6xx you sacrifice a little bit of clarity but if you feel that the 6xx needs more bass, these pads will likely improve the sound for you. I personally like them on the 6xx and really dislike them on the 58x. I do feel they're warmer (temperature) while wearing vs. stock pads as well.
1. I got a pair of HD6XX from the first run - what type pads are on those??
2. I just ordered another pair - what type pads will be on those?
3. What type pads come on the Sennheiser HD650 (which is the equivalent, right).
4. What does fenestrated mean?
5, What foam are the questions about whether the pads come with foam referring to? I want to know how to replace the thin foam that covers the speakers; that will also wear out too.
Stock pads are velour (though kind of cheap quality).
2. Another pair of 6xx's? They're probably velour which is the preferred FR curve for most people.
HD650 come with velour as well but cost double the 6xx so I'm assuming the pads will last longer.
Fenestrated means the sheepskin leather has been punctured several times. This tries to preserve the open sound-staging of the stock 6xx. The normal sheepskin pad is going to enclose the ear fully.
You need the stock foam underneath the earpad to attach your earpads or the adapter will just fall out. You need a NO-FOAM earpad adapter from Modhouse, BUT this is only if you buy from Brainwav or a company that has not bonded the adapter to the earpad itself.
I'm going for the Fenestrated Earpads as I have a velour pad from Brainwaz. Hopefully things work out for you.
