A well executed field watch
I wanted to provide a quick review of Drop’s Felix watch. I got the model with the ion-plated black coating with an exhibition caseback. Overall, I felt the watch was executed as described, appears well built and finished. I don’t have any significant complaints. I like wearing field-style watches most of the time around the house and when I am out and about, unless I am dressing up for work. I have fairly thin wrists (between 6.5-6.75”) and find that a 38-40mm case size is ideal for me. I prefer 38mm watches as they usually don’t get in the way or catch on things when I am working with my hands. 40mm watches have a little more wrist presence and I will use them more when I want to show the watch off. I also have a fairly prominent wrist bone bump, which can by irritated by certain watch designs with sharper lugs when they rub against it. For that reason, I usually prefer watches on a leather NATO strap or a bracelet.  The Felix works well for me. I had been looking for an all-black field watch for some time and it checked all my boxes. It is both light and comfortable to wear. I like the rounded case and particularly the rounded lugs, they feel very comfortable on my wrist with the provided leather strap. I am attaching a few images of the Felix next to a Seiko SARB017 Alpinist. The watches have similar case size specs, but I would say that the Felix feels and looks a bit smaller on on the wrist. I think that is due to the black color and the less obtrusive lug design.

I have only worn it for a few days, but mine seems to be running about 7 seconds fast a day. (Edit: The 3-day average is 6 seconds fast/day.) It has syringe-style hands with a contrasting orange second hand, which appears to be bent downwards near the tip. (I assume that this is to reduce parallax when reading the seconds time.) Like with most new watches, it took me about a day to adjust to reading the dial without thinking about it. The dial is printed, which I find gives less contrast than dials with markers attached with some relief. The large numbers on the dial are not huge, but also include the 24-hour equivalents in smaller print. This is a subjective feature that I can see being convenient for me when traveling overseas, others might not like the clutter. The lume seems acceptable, but not amazing. I can see it in darkness, but I do have to try to read it a bit. (It is not as good as my SARB017, which is not as good as my Lum-Tec, for example.) This would be something that Drop could look at enhancing on later versions of the watch.

The screw-down crown is knurled and gives a good grip. I also like the contrasting ring. I don’t find that it sticks out too far or gets in the way and I might have issues using it if it was less prominent. The movement, of course, has a hacking feature, but I had a bit of trouble with that aspect of the watch. The threads on the crown would try to engage before I could push the stem in enough to engage the movement. This made it a bit tricky to really synchronize the time as I had to both push in and turn the crown to get the movement going. (Maybe this is something that I will get used to.) There is also an unused middle position when setting the time, that I assume engages the date wheel that is not used on this watch. Personally, I think that I would have preferred a date window, but I will probably also enjoy not having to set that complication when I rotate my watches.

The watch came with a tan leather band and a black signed buckle. Both appeared well done. I personally couldn’t stand the tan/black contrast, so I dyed my leather band black and am much happier with the result.    So overall, I have no major regrets on the purchase and I would buy again for the $321 that I paid. In terms of things that I would like to see improved, I would prefer more lume (but that is almost always the case) and the hacking feature was a bit difficult for me to implement. A date window would also have been good, but overall the Felix appears well designed for the price and is very comfortable to use.

Cyn1cThanks for the well thought out review. I, too, bought the black Felix and your review makes me feel more comfortable with my purchase; esp, as we share similar wrist sizes. I liked the comparison to the 017. I anticipate receiving my watch tomorrow. (I wished they'd offered a back strap, too.)

Very nice watch.
This is a really nice field style watch. I feel it’s a big upgrade from Seiko 5. There is a lot of value in this watch for the price, considering the movement and finish. Definitely a lot of bang for your buck. I’m extremely pleased with my purchase, and would definitely recommend this watch for someone

Great little watch that could use a few minor tweaks
This watch wears very well on my 6.5in wrist. Legibility is great and it’s easy to read at a glance. However, I have two minor quibbles: 1.) the lume could be improved. It’s long-lasting but not terribly bright 2.) the lug width for any pass-through straps is actually 22mm while the lug width for any two-piece straps is the listed 20mm. Not a deal breaker by any means but disappointing if you ordered straps and they don’t quite fit right. Overall though, I am very happy with this watch and I would recommend it.

Great watch!
As soon as I saw this watch I knew I had to have it; the style is very reminiscent of classic trench watches, in which soldiers would solder lugs onto their pocket watches to be worn on the wrist for better functionality. It will take some getting used to for me, but for very positive reasons. It's very lightweight and a little smaller than I'm used to; I hardly even notice I'm wearing a watch which makes more comfortable and seem more practical than larger watches. The details are very sharp and make all the difference (for instance, the concave edges of the watch face look incredibly nice). I was a little iffy about the finish when purchasing as I was worried it might feel textured/sandblasted, but it's very soft and satiny. I also worried that the Drop logo in the center of the watch face would be garish, but it's tastefully done (small, dark, and barely even noticeable). Overall, it's better than I expected.

Love the style, not so much the function
I received my new watch and I was ecstatic - it finally came! The leather watchband was comfortable, though *just* fit on the last notch. The feel was sturdy, as a "field" style should be. It is simple, elegant, and beautiful. The size of the watch face and body was perfect on my wrist; didn't look overly large or clunky but still large enough to be a flattering accessory and easy to read timepiece. I have had it for two weeks now, and I definitely wanted to wait until I had worn it a bit before submitting my review... I'm glad I did, but not for the best of reasons. I have found that it gains +1 minute every 48 hours (or so). As an automatic (non-crystal) watch, I can accept a bit of drift and it is not too much to be concerning or annoying. Being a couple minutes early by the end of a week isn't so bad in my mind. I am able to make it a ritual to re-sync it on the weekend before I go out. However, I was walking home and got caught in the rain. I only spent 15 minutes, and it being 100m water "resistant", and the crown was sealed, so I didn't think anything of it (didn't put it in my pocket, etc.). I did get soaked, but as I didn't wear long sleeves, no cloth held water against the watch or anything else like that. Despite this, the next day I noticed a "fog" of condensation inside the watch. This was very disappointing. I know it is not "waterproof", but a mild Midwest rain for a quarter hour was something I expected a "field" watch to take in stride. Right now it is sitting in a bag of rice, where it will probably be for the next couple days. If the condensation doesn't clear, I will be making a stop at a jeweler's for a proper servicing. I still like the watch - after paying for it and waiting months due to "everything going on", I better, right? ;) Photos below.

The condensation gets denser as I wear it - but "clears" taking it off; obviously due to the heat differential.
search
It occurs on both sides - it is not clear if the condensation is on the mechanism or not.

This angle shows the larger water droplets along the inside edge of the bezel. "Luckily" it seems to only be on the sapphire surfaces instead of the face itself. The crown is opened here in an attempt to "dry it out", as that is only access to equalize the air inside.

WillHeavyWell, I have received my replacement watch, and I'm hopeful that the performance will hold up. It's been a couple days, and so far it is "on time". :) I may be a little gun shy of going out in the rain with it on again, but I will let you know how it goes. The customer service during the ship back and receiving the new watch was VERY, VERY good. Thanks!

Great watch once I got it on a strap that fits me
I really like the size and style of the watch and the accuracy seems decent so far. Unfortunately the stock leather strap just didn't fit my (weirdly flat and broad) 6.5" wrist well; it was either way too tight and uncomfortable or loose and uncomfortable. It's wearing much more better on the zulu style strap I put it on.

Kind of watch that'll allow you to pick up women at Whole Foods
Great watch. Feels good on the wrist. I've got those slim ass chicken wrists so it fits great. If you have strong choke the chicken type wrists it'll look small. I know nothing about watches but everyone thinks the movement is to die for. Watch band is high quality but feels a bit dressy. I ordered the canvas band and it's thinner than my TP plus it didn't come with the push bars to secure it. Cheap asses. Buy this watch all day. Very happy with it, when you walk into Whole Foods you'll get looks from older women who also don't know shit about watches but love that sweeping motion.

jboogFYI, I too wondered about the spring bars. It wasn't until I looked at the bag that the NATO strap came in that I saw that they were at the bottom of the bag.

Not only does it have a very good finish, but the performance of the movement is also excellent. The fit is also much better than expected, so I only wear this watch these days.
