Top quality
The construction, and materials are made of what I love in the EDC collection that I own. The build quality, attention to detail has been consistent with all of the FF knives I've purchased. The closest thing I have to a criticism, slight though it may be, is that it's not as sharp as the ZT knives I've recently been acquiring. Very, very happy with my purchase.

Most beautiful fidget toy, with an edge...
Title says it all... its beautiful (got the blue stonewash) and the action is smoother than a hot knife through butter. No offense toward Protech, (never heard of them before) but I can't help but wonder if this knife would be 6 stars if WE Knife was involved.

ItsDartsYou know about We Knives, but haven't heard of Pro Tech??? I assume that you are very new to the knife world, especially high quality folding knives. We Knives are great too, but I wouldn't say they are any better, or worse, build quality-wise, than Pro Tech knives. The complaints about uneven bevels on the Mordax is a bummer due to the amount of work it takes to correct on a hard steel like 20CV.

Love the steel, love the feel!
I Bought the black steel and black handle. I have only used it lightly but love the action and the blade is excellent. Feels solid in the hand. I was worried about how the aluminum handle would feel but it is great. My favorite new every day carry.

Uncomfortable in rectum
For the second time, my captor's rifle butt smashes into my back, pushing me forward and causing the flipper tab of the Mordax button lock folding knife to poke into the side of my rectum. Jamming the knife up my ass was a last move of desperation right before I was caught, beat, and bound. I gritted my teeth and hoped it would prove worth the discomfort. Chancing a look back, it was difficult to see the first man's features against the darkness of the wilderness trail. Tall pines lined our walk into the depths of the forest and only a pale moonlight from behind lit our way. The faint moonlight cast a dim nimbus around the man's large frame and bristly beard. "Eyes forward... prey," the man uttered, the last part dripping in posthumous desire. After about 10 minutes of staggering down the forest path, I find the back of my legs kicked forward, forcing me to my knees, followed by the kick from a boot battering the back of my head and sending my face into the rock, dirt, and pine needles of the trail. A groan of pain is all I can muster in response. My ears ring and a tooth falls out as I roll my face from out of the dirt. Before I can see straight, I find my legs being bound by the large bearded man, and the second man, younger and reeking of Axe body spray pulls me up against a tree and lashes me to it, the bark biting into the meat of my back. "Kevin," the larger man started, "I need you head back and tell the others it's time to get ready for the hunt. I'll be done quick. This one looks kinda wily and the Old Gods appreciate a vigorous chase." Kevin was one of the guys at the bar, I recognized his odor and high-pitched voice. "Yep," Kevin said dryly. "You gonna mark him?" "That's right," the man answered. Dropping a backpack on the ground near the other man, the smaller man praised, "May the blood of his prey fill our cups," and started back up the trail away from us. The big man made a sign with his hands that I was unable to make out, and called out to the mean leaving, "And may he never be sated!" the last words said as he turned his head down to look at me. I took note of his face. A heavy black beard set on a wide mouth. Thick, dark eyebrows hung precariously over small, dark, and almost patient eyes. A spray of unkempt dark hair shot out under an old camouflage hat. Noting what an insane turn of events the evening had revealed, I pleaded, "I thaid I would buy you another beer, man! It was an accthident." The missing tooth added very little to the conviction of my words. He smiled, "Yeah, I know. Bad timing. Bad timing and we don't like outsiders." I could see the patience in his eyes give way to righteousness. Overcome by sudden desperation, words tumble from my mouth, "You try thith, and I'll kill every thingle one of you." "Yeah? All bound up like that? That fire's gonna go out, and it'll be me or one of my brothers lookin' down on you when it does." He continues, "Now you just shut your mouth while Ol' Tom makes you ready for the hunt." That settled it, I wasn't getting out of this. This guy meant to kill me, and I needed to find a way to kill him first. Ol' Tom turns from me and from the backpack, unpacks small jars filled with mysterious liquids, and what looks like a decaying human hand. He holds it up with reverence, its first two fingers join together and point outward, the smaller two fingers are closed into the palm locked in by the thumb. "Oh, come on, what the fuh...," I start, but in a flash I'm backhanded hard across the mouth by Tom. "I thought I told you to shut your mouth," and, with his back turned again, Tom starts to whistle an inscrutable and ancient tune. He's back to work, prying open the small jars of liquid, and mixing them with the ancient dead hand while muttering arcane words from some dead language. Shifting in discomfort, an uncomfortable jab in my ass reminds me of the Mordax knife. "This is it," I realize, thinking to myself. "I need to get that knife out of my ass and kill this sonofabitch." As discretely as I can muster with bound hands, I wedge my hands under my bottom and into the back of my pants. I wince, but it takes just a few seconds to find and free the blade from the grip of my anus. Moving the blade out of my pants with bound hands proves more difficult, and it drops onto the dirt behind me, making a soft thud on the ground. Hearing the thud, Tom looks back toward me, his maniac whistling dwindling a bit as he eyes me up. I hit the back of my head against the tree I'm bound to and look at him menacingly, hoping the sound comes close enough to the dropped knife. He smiles glibly, picking up his bizarre whistling tune as he resumes work. As do I. I press the button lock and ease the Mordax blade out as quietly as I can. No noise. I go to work on my bindings. It's tricky, and the blade is sharp, but despite bloodying myself a bit, the rope is free and my grip is good. Tom's eerie tune halts. "Praise him and his never-ending bloodlust!" he exclaims, holding the wreath rung in small white flowers in his left hand, while holding up the dead hand in the other. It's two pointing fingers are drenched and dripping something blackish.. With my feet bound and my chest still tightly wrapped to the tree, my arms won't be able to reach far. I'll need him very close when I act. Big Tom moves in, an otherworldly glee covers his large face and he gently places the wreath on the ground. Moving over me, he jamming his knee across my lap, steadying his human canvas, and says, "Now, sit still. This has to be done juuuuust right." The crusty finger drenched in ichor dances across my face as he begins to paint ancient symbols. Whatever is on those dead fingers revolts me at some primitive level. The smell is horrid with a rotten-sweetness that is not quite definable, but nearly causes me to retch. My brain reels and in the momentary disorientation, I lose my grip on the knife. Images flash through my mind of ancient chases between men and something horned but man-like, speared bodies, cheering, feasts, dancing in blood, gnashing teeth, and then something huge and dark looming above everything, not seen by the revelers, but felt. It hangs there beyond the boundaries of human comprehension, basking in the adoration and madness. The terror of it pulls me out of the horrific hallucination and I'm focused on Tom. Drool drips from his bottom lip, giving life to a smile frozen in madness. His red-rimmed eyes dart from symbol to symbol, intent on the craft of his work. Pawing in the dirt beneath my hands, still held carefully behind me, the Mordax knife finds its way back into my hand, and then, into Tom's neck. After a brief moment of hesitation not believing what I'd just done, I pull it free with a quick slashing gesture. A look of surprise followed by a gurgling gasp as Ol' Tom staggers back, confused. Not waiting, I cut away my remaining bonds, keeping an eye on Tom as he tries to stifle the flow of blood from his neck. Tom collapses in synchronicity with my rise from the forest floor. My breath comes in ragged gasps still in shock over the violence of the moment. I few minutes later, I close my eyes and resolve to deal with the rest of those devil-bastards.  Flipping the blade in with the push of a button bolsters my confidence further, and I think, "If there's time, maybe I'll push on to deal with that dark god, too." The night is young and my knife is sharp.

Bellagirl1967Sorry our support team wasn't able to get you that answer. We have heard from a few folks about the button being sticky until it got a drop of lubricant which solved the issues in every case. Thanks for letting us know, glad you liked everything else!

Great knife but pricey
What I love
  • - Its a functional and handsome looking knife, nothing overly stylish.
  • - Aluminium handle is well made and fitted made despite being a bit plain, no contouring. I got the plain black handle which may wear over time, which is normal under usage. Got good size finger choil.
  • - The centering and blade symmetry on mine was quite perfect. Read that others didn't have so much luck but mine was good.
  • - People buy this for the button lock and I have to say mine worked great. Drop shut out of the box, no adjustments or lubricant needed. Again, read comments that some buyers had problems with this. Great fidget knife for those who must fidget.

What could be better
  • - Box arrived crushed
  • - For the price I paid, I would have preferred a titanium handle. But Protech makes aluminium handles and they do a really good job at it.

What I hate
  • - DROP dropped the price on this one to $180 for a while after the drop had been shipped. I didn't join the initial drop because of the $240 price and I also wanted to see the reviews because this was the first time Protech was working with Drop and Ferrum Forge on a collaboration. If DROP wants people to pay upfront to fund such productions, they should really give those initial buyers better incentives because they lose out right now. If they want people to have the confidence to buy their knives during the rest of the year outside of promotion periods, they need to manage their pricing.

Beautifully Crafted
This has to be one of the best knives I have bought off of Massdrop (Drop). I purchased the full black version with the milled handle. The craftsmanship is great, the detail that went into creating the handle is inspiring. This is also my first knife to feature a button lock, and I have to say I really like it, often, I find my thumb going to close the knife as a frame lock only to realize that it has a button that I can press and then the knife just falls shut. My brother and I have been collecting the Ferrum Forge x Massdrop Collaborations since the beggining and we have loved all of them. I am definitely considering getting the blue milled version if there is another run (my brother got that version and it is very nicely anodized). I was also fascinated with the high level of craftsmanship from Pro-Tech, as this is my first knife manufactured by them. The aluminum handles feel great, as good as Titanium, just with a lighter touch. Overall, I am truly impressed with this latest collab with Ferrum Forge and look forward to the next one.

Disappointing
I ended up returning this knife after getting an uneven grind. I was pretty disappointed, to be honest. The overall shape of the blade, along with the ergonomics, was super great, and the action was phenomenal. Unfortunately, for a knife from such well-respected companies (not to mention with such a high price tag), this defect was unacceptable. It shouldn't have been sent out in the state it was in.

SierraArgoAgree 100%. I kept mine, but experienced the same when mine arrived. Blade centered, but tip edge grind way off.

lintbrushIt wasn't even an issue of bad edge grind for me. When I looked more closely at the blade, I noticed the bevels weren't symmetrical. I would be curious to know how many other people have this issue.

This was my first push button knife. That being said, I’m not sure if my experiences are “normal” for a push button or I need to fiddle with this thing. I gave 4 stars because it absolutely has blade play. Up/down and also side-side. I have not tried tightening the pivot yet but I’m hoping that will help and or fix the issue. Outside of that, this knife rocks. Awesome blade shape, awesome blade steel. Simple yet amazing pocket clip. Great action (I’ve experienced none of the lock stick many others have mentioned). The aluminum handles kinda suck in the fact that they will/have/are scratching pretty easily but I accepted that going into this purchase. First FF and first Protec knife, won’t be my last.

Received the Mordax today and i do like how lightweight it is for the size. Right away i did notice is has the mushy button lock flipper detent unlike the malibu which does indeed have a much crisper break upon deployment although the Mordax does seem to deploy reliably. I have not disassembled either knife but looking at the button locks they appear to possibly use the same exact button locks so I’m guessing the difference in the detents is milled into the blade tang geometry where it interfaces with the button. Regarding the mordax’s milled handle i had also read about the sharp/hot spots but decided to take the chance since I’m not that fond of the Malibu’s slick aluminum handle nor my other Protech handle, an SNG. I have nothing against aluminum handles as long as they have some type of texture to break up the slick feeling. I have a Cold Steel code 4 which also has this issue and ended up sending it for some hand engraving which worked wonders so I suppose that’s always an option for the malibu. The milling on the mordax handle is good for me until you get to the bottom of the handle which gets thinner where your fingers wraparound and the designer chose cheese grater like 90° blocky milling which is always just a bad choice for a knife handle. If they would’ve not done that part and just left the milled lines throughout it would’ve been much better. I would like to see that on the Malibu actually adding some milling lines for texture sans cheese grater area. I suppose as long as ones not planning on hard using the mordax and just mainly light to medium EDC use it shouldn't present a problem though and it does look nicer than Plain flat AL slabs. I’ve only had the mordax for a few hours and the Malibu for a couple months or so now but i think I do prefer the Malibu and had already decided it will most likely stay in the collection as it does have a lot going for it where as the mordax I’m not so sure yet but they are both quality blades. Ive handled and own many makes/models over the years and there is no such thing as the perfect folder. There are Always compromises and it comes down to how the design and features align with our preferences and what we are willing to overlook and what is a showstopper ultimately.
