Are these sturdy enough to backpack with?
Dec 12, 2019
My wife usually uses the Fizans but I’ve also used them a bunch. The short answer is YES, definitely. The long answer is that I think you have to look at the terrain and conditions to determine what pole would have the best application for the trip you are on. If you can’t afford another set or don’t see the need for a couple of sets I think these are a great all- round pole. The price point for the quality can’t be matched. For example if I was going through the High Sierras in early summer with a lot of snowpack and I knew I would have poles in my hand 98% of the time and sometimes putting a lot of pressure on them I would opt for my BD Carbon Corks or a Komperdell equivalent. A lot heavier but stiffer and stronger. If I was on a trail with sort of average tread and not a ton of technical terrain these would be in my hand. These are especially good when you aren’t using them because they are so light to throw back on your pack. Strongly recommended

Is there any care recommendations for these? I just got back from a trip and I was barely able to unscrew the middle section and would like to know if recommends any kind of lubricant or something would be safe to use on these.

They're friction locks, so lubricants might make them too slippery. I just use some dish soap and a long pipe cleaner to clean the dirt out from time to time.
Do these work well as tent poles?

They’ve worked great with a six moons design Lunar Solo, Gatewood Cape and Gossamer Gear Twinn Tarp.
What is the folded length of the Compact 3 and Compact 4?
Dec 12, 2019
I believe the minimums lengths listed under the Details section (58cm for the Compact 3 and 49cm for the Compact 4) correspond to the fully collapsed length, as they would be packed. From memory, that lines up with my experience with my Compact 3’s.

Just curious since someone ordered a blue compact 3 that came in all black in 2020. Has the color changed recently, I am not fond of the blue color.

Yes, I ordered a pair and the picture had blue trekking poles. I didnt like the color or look but needed a pair for my tent, so I bought them. I'm so happy they ran out of blue, because I received black ones with a little bit of red accent. The black ones look nice to me. I will only take poles with me when I use an ultralight tent, otherwise I don't like using them for hiking.
