MetsFanVIYes, there is a very good chance this will ship sooner. Our friends at Fizan have already started production of these poles. I am hopeful that we will be able to ship 1-2 weeks earlier, but I can't make that promise until the poles have actually arrive at our shipping facility.
where are you heading on 7/28?
DannyMilksThanks for the quick response. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
I'm joining my son and some other Boy Scouts on a trek to Isle Royale. We're all looking forward to a week on the island!
MetsFanVIAn amazing place! We ferried into Windigo and out of Rock Harbor. I'm sure you're already planned, but my unsolicited advice is to make sure you camp both on the shore and in the interior.
SawatchFactoryThanks! Any input is greatly appreciated. We're taking the ferry from Grand Portage in/out of Windigo. Our current plan is to stay on the western half of the island. I'm really looking foward to seeing the area. I've done the Boundary Waters Canoe Area so I think I know what kind of terrain to expect (relatively flat). How were the trails? Pretty well groomed?
MetsFanVIOh gosh...was hoping you wouldn't ask! I'm going off memories from about 25 years ago. I recall it being similar to BWCA trails, but I can't comment on current trail conditions.
I wouldn't call the island flat. There aren't long, sustained hills like we have here in Colorado, but you'll definitely gain some elevation; Superior sits at 600' asl and the highest point on the island is 1394'.
This sheet gives a decent, subjective opinion of some of the trails: https://www.isleroyale.com/sg_userfiles/IR-Trail-Routes-2011.pdf Just notice that it's on the website of the ferry that operates to the Rock Harbor end, so it only covers loops from that end - good business sense!
SawatchFactoryThanks. A number of us have done Philmont in northern New Mexico so 700-800' in a day isn't going to break us. Plus it won't be at altidue!
