Trusty Trekking Poles, Made in Italy

Made in collaboration with Fizan, an Italian pole maker that’s been in business since 1947, these are among the lightest collapsible, fully adjustable trekking poles on the market. They feature the 7001 aluminum construction and super-strong locking system of Fizan’s original Compact poles, plus a few improvements to help you out on the trail. The EVA foam grip has a new ergonomic, cushioned design with a rounded plastic top for a more comfortable under-palm feel during descents. The straps are wider, smoother, and more pliable, which makes them more breathable and less likely to cause chafing. And to ensure you’re ready for varying terrain, the poles come with a pair of durable, grippy tip covers and three sets of hiking baskets—all for $60.

Collapsible, Adjustable & Ultralight

Featuring three sections, the Compact 3 is adjustable from 22.8 to 52 inches and weighs 5.6 ounces per pole. Meanwhile, the Compact 4 has four sections, is adjustable from 19.3 to 49.2 inches, and weighs 6 ounces. While the Compact 3 is a bit lighter and can extend longer, the Compact 4 collapses smaller, making it a good alternative for those who plan to travel with their poles inside their backpack or luggage. Both feature replaceable carbide tips for traction on dirt trails and metal-reinforced, highly textured rubber tip covers for rocky trails and slippery surfaces. Along with the included baskets, the poles can accommodate press-fit baskets from other brands. The larger baskets are well suited for use on sand, mud, and snowy passes.

Why Use Trekking Poles?

Ideal for anyone who wants to hike with greater speed and stability, trekking poles come in handy for rocky and uneven terrain, water crossings, steep ascents and descents, and stepps trails. They can be useful for those with back, knee, or ankle problems by distributing the load more evenly, and can also help minimize the chance of developing stress injuries. Plus, when you’re doing a multi-day trek, you can use the poles in your shelter or tarp setup.

About Fizan

Founded in 1947 by Domenico Fincati, Fizan pioneered the use of aluminum in ski poles when the rest of world was still using steel or bamboo. Since then, the company has become a leader in the market, widely known in Europe for its alpine and Nordic walking poles, and among the ultralight community for its Compact series of trekking poles. Seventy years after its inception, Fizan remains family owned and operated, and all poles are still made in its factory in Veneto, Italy, using environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices.

They're friction locks, so lubricants might make them too slippery. I just use some dish soap and a long pipe cleaner to clean the dirt out from time to time.Read More
