Anybody know what "Closed principle" means? Are these closed back? Are they expected to leak much? At this price point, with that aesthetic, and this reputable brand, I'm really tempted to add a Planar Magnetic option to my in-the-office arsenal... IF I can use them without disturbing those around me... I'm using TR-X00's as my daily driver at work and loving them...
psuKingerEeeeh, I'd say these are semi-open just like the T50RP. There's some open vents on the back (I can see some foam), though you can play around with sealing them with silly putty or blu-tac. Closed Principle - Like ear muffs, these are fully sealed headphones. Open Headphones - Like HE-400i, the driver outputs as much sound away from your ear as towards... though as extremely near-field speakers, the volume drops off fast. No resonance issues and the most "crisp" realistic sound, the best sense of soundstage size. Semi-Open Principle - Closed but vented earcups. Broad classification... the Fostex TH-X00 and Sony Z1R are actually semi-open, because they technically are vented. I got one of the production samples (also have a Dekoni Blue, and got to review a ZMF Vibro before, like all them for different things), and when you're wearing them the leak out is much quieter than fully open headphones (like the Sennheiser HD 58X). If you were in an office with an open door, people wouldn't hear them from outside. If you were in a cubicle, nobody would hear them over the tapping of keyboards, air conditioning, or background conversation. Here's a video where I show how much a wide array of different headphones leak, compared to the typical volume of talking (music plays continuously, I comment some of the time): Headphone Sound Leakage Demo

psuKingerThey're semi-open and quite leaky. They also don't isolate the best as office conversations more than often than not encroach on my tunes. I had a coworker tell me they're not that bad, but they can easily make out what I'm listening to, especially higher frequency sounds. While using these in bed, the wife complains that these can get a bit annoying and leak a fair bit as I tend to listen right before I fall asleep. Seeing that you have the TRX00 (I also have the ebony's), they're about as leaky and isolate just as well as those.
