Hi Everybody: I’m excited to announce today four new Drop exclusives for the Glycine Combat Sub, which you can only get here.  The first is the Drop + Gycine Combat Sub GMT. We’ve been hearing the calls for quite some time to make a GMT hand available for the Glycine Combat, and we’ve finally done it while upgrading the movement to boot. The Combat Sub’s GL284 has been swapped out for the GL293, the same used in the Glycine Airman (similar to ETA 2893-2)   For these models, we have added an exhibition caseback to let the beauty of the new movement shine through. Glycine enthusiasts may also note a very welcome return to the original Glycine logo. We’re launching the GMT in the red/blue colorway of our original Glycine Soda Edition Combat Sub, as well as a new aged colorway that we’ve taken to calling “The Coffee Edition”.  We have both of the “coffee” and “soda” colorways currently available as both GMT and original versions. All come with a solid link stainless steel band preinstalled. For those of you who like the ease and comfort of a leather band, we’ve made one available at checkout with a quick release springbar that you can add to your Sub.  True to a Combat Sub Automatic, expect the same classic styling, superb finish levels, 200 meter (660 ft) water resistance, triple coated sapphire crystal. Like any Glycine, these automatic timepieces are made in Switzerland.  All four drops can be found here: Combat Sub GMT
Drop + Glycine Combat Sub GMT “Soda Edition”
Drop + Glycine Combat Sub GMT “Coffee Edition”

Original Combat Sub
Drop + Glycine Combat Sub “Soda Edition”
Drop + Glycine Combat Sub “Coffee Edition” We really hope you like all of these. Here for any questions. Leo

leopadronDang, the bezel is different between the GMT and non-GMT. So only 1 timezone without the GMT hand and 3 timezones with the GMT hand (including the current timezone)?
(Edited)
Octoberprince78The real changes are under the hood. To make a GMT automatic, we've actually replaced the Combat Sub movement with the Glycine Airman automatic movement, which is derived from the ETA 2893-2 design instead of the 2824-2. These better made movements have improvements in the automatic section, balance wheel, and so forth. They're also have higher quality controls, better regulation, and decorated finishes. The end result is a much higher quality timepiece.

leopadronYeah but then the gmt coloring on the non gmt makes completely no sense? Either it should have a 12 hour bezel to semi show a second time zone or the coloring should be like any other two toned dive bezel (20min red, 40min blue)
CS_05If you're already demarcating the 15 minute count with extra tracks, highlighting it with another color is a bit like underlining an underline. Whereas by dividing the bezel into AM/PM through color, one might potentially extend the ways in which the bezel can be used. This is just my personal opinion. Otherwise, I'm not quite convinced (<-- clickable links) that there's ever been a strict orthodoxy regarding how to split a colorway for a diver bezel.

leopadronIs that seriously your answer?? I mean really?? Well, I advice you to google any other bi-color bezel diver watch on the market. Literally ANY other brand you'll find. The marking on diver watches IS always 15-20 minutes to allow count the decompressing time. So I guess you could do it right or wrong and you have chosen the latter. @CS_05 is absolutely right. And I know I know: divers use the diving computers nowadays and most of us are desk divers (including me). So the bezel is decoration only. Still it looks stupid this way! And a complete deal breaker for me. PS. What other function would you use it for? I don't see any. PPS. If you look for a functional and other-than-anyone-else bezel type, here's my idea: paint it in rainbow colors. Explanation: the watch is deciding what color of skittles you are about to eat. Your welcome.

ElkyAnd thank you. However there are some links in the last paragraph of my response showing past examples of non-gmt bezels with an even colorway split that you're free to click on. Timex's quartz movement diver does the same incidentally. (And as far as utility goes, I personally find an adjustable 30 minute offset to be not a terribly un-useful thing, but maybe thats me!)

leopadronMh.. but you showing me four examples of other brands that got it wrong as well does not make it more right in my opinion... I think a bezel of this type of watch should only have one function (different with tachymeter etc.), either you use it for calculating decompressing time or to show another time zone (but with only three hands, there should be a 24h bezel combined with an 24h sweep hour hand to effectively achieve that, that is why i used the term "semi-show"), and the coloring is just a way to help underline the basic function. But I get that in this case, the looks were more important than functionality which is an absolutely relatable reason (just not mine) :)

leopadronLeo, are the markers painted or applied indices?
Octoberprince78These are applied indices.

leopadronWill glycine ever make a smaller diameter combat sub? I’m a huge fan of Glycine, but 42mm is massive. If there were a 36-38mm with a Lug width around 18-20mm I wouldn’t hesitate.
arntse45It's something people have asked for and I agree it would be great to explore for future models, though I imagine such a decision would take some time to roll out. Sizing is a topic I will surface as we continue our future collaborations. :-)

leopadronNow wait, 42 is not massive. Reducing the size anymore would make the watch look like a unisex model. Not everyone on the site has small wrists. Small divers don't make sense. There's a reason (both functional and aesthetic) Rolex made the original submariner significantly larger than the typical watch back then (besides the necessity of housing the movement)

leopadronJust curious if we will eventually get some ‘in the metal’ shots instead of renderings, and if we could get some lume shots as well? Thanks!

leopadronHi, I love the GMT version of this watch, but out of my budget. I have just taken advantage of the reduced price on the standard "Soda" version and thank-you very much, the $275 was much closer to what I was happy to pay.(Brings my sub combat collection to 3,so far.) I hope the GMT doesn't follow suit, and drop anywhere near the $350 mark or I may have to ask for a swap and adjustment!!! But I am curious about the Glycine leather strap for this watch; can it be ordered outside of this Drop for the GMT, and if so how much? Thanks and keep up the good work.

leopadronWhen you say similar to the ETA 2893, do you mean to say it's a Sellita SW330-1? Which is really only similar in that it's a GmT? ?If you aren't proud of what's in it you shouldn't make it, in my opinion. SW330-1 is a perfectly fine movement, I vote you be transparent and not try to compare it to an ETA, it isn't a copy of the 2893 in this case, it's a thinner iteration of the SW200, made to compete with the 2982 (sw300) and the 2893(sw330) but not being an exact copy like the SW200 is with the ETA 2824.

leopadronAs I said ,don't like the price; but if I was interested I would probably like a "Batman" color, or all black, or some other color of bezel, Just a choice of bezel color shouldn't be too difficult, green is particularly popular. Apparently some are saying the GMT style of watch will be popular this year.!! Ironic as it will probably be the quietest year for a long time when people are not travelling through multiple timezones!! By the way if would like the price to be Sub $429 usd. -- if you don't ask you don't get!! Regards.

Glen8I think the Sellita SW330-1 is actually a clone of the 2893, just as the SW-200 clones the 2824.

JAoneI think it's really a bargain - the Airman with actual GMT can be double this price, and good luck finding another SW330 or 2893 anywhere close.

jontptCheck out Steinhart GMT 42 mm around $515 plus applicable tax!! and there are some others ; but you are right not overly expensive; but I would have expected a more competitive price on Drop!!

JAoneYeah, good catch. Even more Rolex "clonage-y" than the Glycine, and smaller, but at a better price.
