Product Description
The best open-back headphones strive to break free from the headbands and earcups that bind them. Engineering to emulate the natural listening experience—where sound reaches your ears through the open air, from a source right in front of you—our Axel Grell-designed OAE1 signature Headphones took a step closer to that freedom. Naturally, they sold out fast. Now they’re back in all-black version with the exact same acoustic design. Meet the Drop + grell OAE1: a groundbreaking pair of headphones with game-changing driver geometry and an ultra-expansive soundstage.

So the difference from first run is.. one cable (single ended, single entry), black finish, no signature on armature, no case? Any tuning change?

Plenty of reviews on the OAE1 Signature drop page: https://drop.com/buy/drop-grell-oae1-signature-headphones/reviews#reviews (same headphones, just different colorway for the first batch run)

That tuning looks pretty harsh in the upper-mids or low treble. How does it sound?
I found the treble pretty mellow, the high mids are strong but I wouldn't say they've even reached the sparkling territory yet (or past that to harsh). OF COURSE, the sound of all headphones are changed a bit by the folds and dimensions of your ear, so I can't guarantee what it will sound like to you. This is more mellow than the HD 800, definitely not as harsh as a DT880, so if you've heard either of those this is less "harsh" by relative comparison.

Anybody have a recommendation for replacement cables? I would like a longer 3.5mm and a 4.4mm balanced. With the headphone side of the cable needing to go so far up into the headphone... not sure if the cables I'm looking at will fit into the headphones themselves.

A Google search found this offering at Hart Audio : https://hartaudiocables.com/products/cst-hc-6-c-custom-2-5mm-headphone-cable-for-grell-oae-1-headpones-balanced-options?variant=45498455392477. In the pictures it shows an [overly?] lengthy extension for the 2.5mm connection to the headphones. I was wondering if a balanced cable for the OEA1 could be made to use just a single connection to either can. Apparently it can. I've also seen a photo of an OEA1 with a split cable connected... why? I may get one of these mated to the Qudelix 5K's 2.5mm balanced output after I listen to the stock cable with the SE connection (once my stuff from Drop finally arrives :-).
