I Love 'em, and I hate 'em
I absolutely love the sound quality of these IEM's but thoroughly detest the completely unpredictable controls. Sure... they come with cute little cartoon instructions on how to tap... press... swipe your way to audio bliss, but those cartoon pictures don't match what ever the hell it is the IEM's decide to do. I've reached the point where I've given up. I use the volume control on my phone, and avoid touching the IEM's as best I can. Still, they decide to do what they want. I've learned to avoid scratching behind my ear, and I'm beyond cautious in putting on or taking off my sunglasses, because I'm sick to death of them suddenly announcing that they are "Calling Pete The Electrician" or anyone else they decide to pull up out of my contacts list. No... Sorry Pete... I don't have an Electrical Emergency at Midnight... My damned IEM's decided to Butt Dial You because they have a mind of their own. Accidentally get your hand to close to your ear? "Trans Parent On!" Aw Crap! "Trans Parent On!... Trans Parent Off... Trans Parent On... Trans Parent Off" Dammit.... I don't want a Trans Anyone anywhere near me, Just give me the ANC I'm looking for and shut the hell up! Bottom line... I love the Audio Quality of these IEM's But if one of them falls in the sink while I'm wearing them (Managed to catch it in time, thank you very much) or falls in the toilet (missed it by that much) I'm not going to shed a tear. I'll just throw the damned things away and buy something that works. They are rugged though, I'll give you that. They've bounced down the driveway while I'm hauling the trash cans to the curb... They've bounced across the floor of my workshop and hidden under my Table Saw without sustaining any damage (Unless of course the reason that the battery on the left IEM only lasts about four hours is because It fell out of my ear one too many times.) But No... I wouldn't recommend this product to a friend, and I wouldn't buy them again.
Recommends this product? No

Mark-EOuch, glad they have survived a few falls! This may not completely resolve your touch control concerns, but it may help a little: https://youtu.be/Cg2NQsdGXYY Even though you aren’t recommending them (and shared some constructive feedback), we would still like to thank you for the compliments you did share :)

EvshrugWell.... It finally happened. This morning I reached over and flushed the toilet. At the same time that my left hand came off the flush lever, my right IEM fell out of my ear and directly into the swirling water. It has begun its high-speed journey to the sewage treatment plant, and will never return. As much as I love the sound of these amazing IEM's, I can't justify purchasing another pair. I will resume my search for a set of wired, bluetooth IEM's that rival the amazing sound quality and ANC of these Grell TWS1 buds. Goodbye dear earbud. It was good to know you.

rajesh87While it’s true that all true wireless headphones are small pieces that can get lost if they fall (I definitely recommend exploring ear tips to find a comfortable but secure fit! I personally like foam, but I had to use some Comply T200 that were smaller than normal… fortunately, most of my IEMs use the same size tips as the grells, so I already had a wide selection), I wanted to point out that it’s possible to tie a thread to the earpieces if desired:
search
In this photo, I tied fishing line around the “pinched waist” of the grells, just so I could hang them on this fence for the picture. I could see someone using sewing thread 🧵 instead. But, some experimentation would be needed to see what would still allow the charging case lid to close… I cut off the fishing line after these pictures, and the grells stay in my ears during my morning walks, lawn mowing, and such. The search for the perfect eartip is key… grell includes three common sizes of silicone, and two common sizes of memory foam, while some others don’t include foam tips at all (like AirPods). I’ve found that tips too small result in poor (weaker) bass… but tips that are too big actually fall out more easily, because it’s too much material to fit inside the ear and they get squeezed out. I also don’t wear in-ear headphones while I’m eating, because the motion of the jaw moving also changes the shape of the ear canal and presses on the ear tips a bit. This is just generic advice that applies to any in-ear headphone anyway… but worth thinking about.

EvshrugThanks for the suggestion, but No. I'm not going to buy another pair, and tie String, Fishing line, Sewing Thread or Dental Floss to them, nor am I going to try Duct Tape. I absolutely LOVE the audio quality of these IEM's and I did everything I could to try and make them work, swapping out every possible combination of Ear Tips and Wings to try and make them secure. I "thought" I'd found the perfect combination, yet "Woosh.... " away went my right earbud on Mr. Kohler's Wet 'n Wild Ride into the bowels of the sewage system. Less than 12 hours before it departed I reached down to pick up a palm frond that had fallen in the garden. My left ear brushed against a shrub and.... "Trans Parent On" Shortly after that I took the IEM's out of my ears to talk with a guest. A few seconds after I put them back in my phone rang... the person on the other end of the line told me that they were returning my call. I hadn't placed a call in days. But.... I suspect my IEM's Butt Dialed a mysterious stranger, and now that stranger is calling me back? With all the frustration I've had with constant touch controls having a mind of their own, and switching settings or placing random phone calls I was almost happy to see these IEM's out of my life. But... The Audio Quality is Amazing. I spent days researching, and I "Thought" I'd found the perfect solution with Sony's WI-1000XM2 and ordered them last week. I spent the weekend listening to poor quality audio, and knowing that life would be better on Monday when my new Sony's arrived, but No... At an even higher price point the Sony ANC is a joke in comparison to Axel Grell's product. And the audio quality? A minor step above their WI-C310's, and certainly nowhere near close to the Drop + Grell TWS1X When you add an Axel Grell designed product with the Amazing Audio Quality of the TWS1X combined with the longer battery life, and physical button controls coupled with neckband wired security of the Sony products so I don't have to worry about losing an earbud while walking around the house let me know... I'll be first in line to buy a pair. I miss the Audio Quality of the TWS1X... but I don't miss the constant frustration.

EvshrugGrell should make a version of these ear buds for athletes, while the sound is the best in the industry, I too have problems with them falling out while working out. Maybe make a version with the over the ear rails. The main use of these things for me is when working out, since I can wear full size earphones when at work.

EvshrugI like the fishing line idea, even if it is a hack (although I will not be doing this... it's too much trouble). The larger provided ear tips will not allow the earbuds to fit in the case anymore... major design fail :(. You have to remove the tips every time to recharge the buds or just put them away. I suppose you can hack this as well with a tight rubber band.

crimsontimeI just checked my eartips: all the sizes of my silicone tips have the same insertion depth (the foam has a mm of variance that doesn’t seem related to size). I had to give my buds a little wiggle-wiggle sometimes to make sure the tips weren’t sticking to the sides and let the lid close, but usually the magnets held them inside firmly enough that the lid closes with a clap (also held by magnets). I also recommend wiping the tips off before you put them back. I totally get that you use these while working out; now that I currently don’t work for grell audio, I still use mine on walks and with the dumbbells in my basement.

Mark-EGood review. The casual transphobia is a nice touch.
