Solid Headphones for the Price Point
These headphones for 99 dollars is a good price point even though the Hifiman He400se is 10 dollars more. At that point, it is making a decision based on the look and aesthetic of the headphone (which I did because I am not a fan of the silver on the He400se). The headphones are solid headphones with good sound quality. I do not know much else to say for these headphones other than them being good tuning and they are just good. Even though they are good headphones, I am do think the that the He4xx that it competes with are the better headphone if they can be bought on sale. Overall I am happy with these headphones. Get it at a good price!

Great sound, Incredible for this price
For $100 I'm not sure what will stand up to this in over-ear headphones. I also have their cousin HE-4XX which I used for a side-by-side. These are a bit quieter, but they respond to a little extra power insanely well. They're warm, just a tad dark which removes any trace of harsh sibilance, but the detail is still wonderful. They feel a little more snug than the 4XX without any uncomfortable pressure on the ears or head. I've been testing them with my FLAC collection from Mozart and Bach to Black Sabbath and Linkin Park. I can hear guitar amplifiers fizzling, I can hear the violins clear as day with no sharpness, and Alexis Cole's smooth alto voice plays out beautifully around my head. Instrument separation across the stereo soundstage is really nice. The orchestra plays out around you, and dual-guitarist rock bands flank either side of a mix. These are not going to be your crystal-clear, clean reference headphones for any music mastering because that's not what they are made to be. They have warmth and character and depth to them that makes music feel immersive and enveloping. UNBEATABLE at $100.

For the price...
It would be very hard to beat these headphones for the price. The sound is unbelievable, and would beat almost anything at this price. The build quality is a little so so with this brand, but it's usable and better with upgraded ear pads. An DAC/amplifier makes them a lot better too, especially when it comes to loudness, but they are usable without one. I've seen reviews suggesting that this is one of the best headphones for sound quality that Hifiman offers, despite being one of the cheapest. That's one of the strange aspects of this company, but if you want planar magnetic headphones and don't want to spend $1,200, these will do the job and sound great, possibly better than many of their more expensive peers.

Very impressed with my first serious headphones
I am very new to headphones in general. I only used gaming headsets before. I haven't extensively tested them yet, however in my first music session I was very impressed. Once I order a AMP and DAC I will begin to test in different aspects. Great headphones! Edit: Discovered a small bend on one of the two jacks that go into the headphone. Audio isn't disrupted so not a problem.

The Headphones are great, it just took forever to arrive

The Headphones are great and the feel really really premium I loved the the texture of inside the earcup, it is a bit difficult to adjust the size of the headband but overall it's a great product, just mind you, if you live in Mexico or you want this headphones to be shipped there is going to take almost 2 months to arrive. But the definitely this purchase was really worth the wait and the hassle to go and pick them up at the local post office.

Great Introduction to Planar Headphones
I picked up the HE-X4 headphones before Christmas 2023 on sale. The sound is excellent for the price. Compared to the HD6XX the mids are slightly less sharp, but the bass and treble are better. There is a little more boom in the bass, and the treble (symbols and stuff) are sharper. The drivers also seem to react more quickly creating better distinction between instruments. Subtle sounds don't get drowned out from louder sounds in the low to mid range. I found these headphones very enjoyable to listen to. One downside is you will need a dedicated amp to drive them. They run ok from the headphone port on my MacBook Pro, but you don't get all the capability until you plug them into an amp.

Fast and detailed but heavy as a rock
First time experiencing the planar sound and I'm a fan! The sound is quite detailed and feels fast? Like there is no delay between complex guitar sections and its very easy to listen to metal and rock music on this thing. Comfort is also decent with the only con being the weight of the headphone, it is by far the heaviest headphone I've used and I'm still getting used to the weight. Build quality seems great though. I did go for an aftermarket cable mainly because I wanted to straight plug to the source but the in box cable is also decent albeit again bit heavier.

just like HE-4XX, power is not enough
and sound clairty is not very good either. I would say it's a little bit better than 4XX but overall, it's almost same.

Only last 9 days
Its unfortunate that these headphones only last me nine days, because I really did like them and was impressed by the sound quality the offer. I can not recommend these to friends if I myself had a poor experience as I would not want to sour someone else if this is the type of build quality.
