i want to preface my review with two caveats: 1. I do not have access to headphones/have not listened to headphones costing many times more than these (I have listened to some similarly priced headphones and the Sennheiser Momentum, which cost ~2x these). I am reviewing them based on headphones I have heard and based on their own performance. 2. their performance when driven from a phone or regular headphone jack on a computer/laptop is so-so. They still sound good, but when I use the headphone amp on my stereo amplifier, these ’phones sing
all that being said, these are my first foray into “nice” headphones, let alone magnetic planars. The build quality is superb-they feel solid and the finish is very handsome. I love the matte blue on the ear cups. They are also very comfortable. I wear glasses and have not experience discomfort wearing my glasses and headphones at the same time, even over long listening sessions (2-3 hrs).
For sound, these headphones are sharp. The highs are are clear and crisp, mids are resolute and the lows are firm and commanding. they image well. Being open-back, they don‘t seal sound in your head, but they feel very spacious and, well, open. I have pretty eclectic listening tastes, ranging from classical to hip hip and just about everything in between. These have held up well to everything I’ve thrown at them. If you are looking for crazy bass-boosted headphones for listening to rap, I would recommend looking elsewhere. There is plenty of low-end heft here, but Beats these are not.
All-in-all, these are great headphones. If you catch the drop, pick them up! And then do yourself an extra favor and get a headphone amp like the Audioquest Dragonfly or Schiit Fulla 2 to get the best performance out of your new cans!
