Excellent build quality, plush earpads, stellar comfort. Would have preferred a longer cable.
Tight but not strong bass, certainly does not have the slam that the Audezes' have.
Lush thick mids as expected in planar magnetic headphones.
Slightly fatiguing highs
Moderate imaging, medium soundstage
Some people here might be considering the HifiMan HE4XX vs Sennheiser HD58X due to their similar price point. There are not many comparisons from what I can find online but I own both and would like to share my thoughts. To my ears, HE4XX is a much better headphone, but only after critical listening. First impressions will favour the HD58X due to it stronger bass response, less fatiguing highs, more dynamic and punchy sound. But the HE4XX imaging and soundstage trumps the HD58X. Side by side, HD58X sounds like a closed headphone. As a result, in the HE4XX, to me the music sounds so much more organic and realistic. You feel more like the person is singing in front of you, and you can picture the fingers plucking the strings than just hearing the music playing. Detail retrieval of the HE4XX is just better. However, I suspect that people may prefer the HD58x for electronic music and genres with non-natural sounds as the realism of the sound and staging are not as important.
Users who own both please let me know if you agree with my impressions. The rest, hope my findings will benefit your purchase decision. I use mainly Tidal + Modi Multibit + Vali 2 with Genalex set up.
