Product Description
Many headphone companies have tried their hand at planar magnetic drivers, but none have done it quite like HIFIMAN. The result of founder Dr. Fang’s PhD research at Columbia University, its driver technology has landed the company in TIME, Forbes, and CNET’s “The Audiophiliac,” and won it the CES Editors’ Choice Award Read More

These are my first planar cans, after using the PC37X and SHP9500 for a bit. I really like the sound on these. I use a Fulla 3 on my PC, and a Fiio BTR5 with my phone, and both seem to work well. I am considering upgrading the PC solution soon, and I'm curious if the HE4xx sound will get even better. I would like a slightly longer cable, and I'm not a big fan of right angle plugs, but those are minor quibbles. I actually prefer them when gaming over my SHP 9500s, mainly for the feel on my head.

Great headphones, but need a good source
These headphones were excellent while my sound card lived, the little Fiio DAC I have now just doesn't open them up properly, will have to see how they sound with Schiit Magnius/Mobius stack when it gets here. Pretty much the best planar in this price range, so a great buy.

Incredible.
These are a lot of firsts for me: planars, open back, amplified, high end headphones. Coming from Bose QC35s, and using the Schiit Magni/Modi stack for reference. These sound incredible. Sound stage is like nothing I knew could exist. Detail is wonderful. Bass is punchy, never mushy, and strong enough for anyone who's not a basshead (and bassheads should know open backs aren't for them). Extremely comfortable and great build quality. I am actually getting into new music that I didn't care about before because of these (I get the appeal of Jacob Collier now). These can TECHNICALLY be powered by a phone or laptop, but if that's how you plan to use them you're wasting this product and your money. Get a cheap amp, bass is anemic off a phone. Only downsides is the cable (which feels fantastic and lays flat without hassle) could be like a foot longer (it's about 4.5 feet long) and they get slightly warm if the room is warm after a while, but still not bad (much less than my QC35s). I have already recommended these to multiple people I know. Having tried them now, $180 is a steal.

For 120$, these are a steal.
I bought them during Black Friday, and had a 10$ credit on my account. For 110$, these are the best planars you can buy. For 180$, there’s still very little competition, but I would’ve hesitated way more.

Clean lovely sound
The cleanest neutrals I have heard. All in all super value oriented planar magnetic. Analytical signature sound for music and also decent performance in either fps or rpg games.

so happy with them
They are extremely comfortable run great of of my o2 amp and the drivers sound absolutely amazing listening to music. Possibly a little bit too crisp for my liking.

Cheap build quality
I've had two of these headphones fail in the exact same way. The way the yoke attaches to the headband is a massive weakpoint. What exacerbates this issue is that it is not replaceable unless you want to take a drill to your headphones.

Great sounding headphones!
This is the first planar headphone that I've owned and it sounds excellent running out of my Vali/Modi stack. Would have given 5 stars if not for the scuff marks present straight out of the box, nothing that effects the sound quality at all but still strange, one on top of the left cup and one on the bottom of the right.

Disappointment...
Massively disappointed. Received mine the day before, packaging comes in a plastic loosely taped and no seal on the box whatsoever, just these raised some concerns for me if I'm getting a genuinely new product. Took it out, there're some scuff marks around the 3.5mm ports (but no big deal, for the price as long as it sounds good right?) So is the sound good? Absolutely, BUT only from the right side. The left side driver is dead. No sound. Tested with different sources, different cables, swapped left right around, no dice. Contacted drop support for replacement procedure, sent me some troubleshooting steps instead (which I already tested). I've waited nearly 3 weeks for this pair to arrive and if they tell me to send it back halfway around the world in order to send me back a replacement, I'll be more tilted than the earth axis. Maybe I'm just unlucky. Buy at your own risk. This was my first purchase ever from Drop and my experience has been terrible so far.
