A couple of quick things I want to say about the HE4XX. First, as someone already pointed out, even if these are HE400S clones with the addition of focus pads ($235+$35=$270) these are still $100 off. So if you are worried about value, your worries are unfounded.
Second, for those of you that want a comparison to the M1060, it's not even close but neither is the price. Think about it. The M1060 is a headphone based on LCD-2 and it's 1/3 the price of the LCD-2. And the HE4XX is half of the already discounted M1060 price. I'm pretty much thinking that getting the M1060's tech at half of the price it already is is ridiculous. Also, I consider the M1060 a $400 headphone because stock earpads had serious issues and headband comfort was lacking. Spending $20-$80 for earpads and ~$20 for headband comfort is necessary (for most people) to enjoy them. As for the M560, I can't speculate because I haven't heard them, but most hate those and their measurements are pretty bad. I imagine that the HE4XX will sound superior. That's pure speculation, however.
Third, I know that the old HiFiMan design had some durability issues. I personally have not experienced this with my HE-400. I have had it for years and it has given me less problems build-wise than my M1060 or various Beyerdynamics. However, YMMV. I also feel that my HE-400 is one of the most attractive headphones of all time so I'm glad they brought the design back. I personally feel that the HE400i/S are both fugly to the max. But, again, this is subjective.
Forth, from the early measurements we aren't going to see the typical treble problems that have plagued HiFiMan Planars. It looks closer measurement-wise to the HD650 than any planar I'm familiar with. However, that's an apples-to-oranges comparison since planar and dynamics sound quite different. Also, measurements really mean almost nothing when it comes to the actual sound.
Fifth, if the HE4XX doesn't look like something you would like, close this tab and move on with your life. If you want more information about these, carefully read the description, @Will's comments, and visit this thread http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/massdrop-x-hifiman-he4xx-measurements-and-impressions.4815/ Those sources contain about all the information we know about it right now. Also, for those of complaining about them not revealing the driver information, I can tell you that non-discloser agreements are no joke and cannot be taken lightly by Massdrop. No amount of whining about that is going to make them breach the agreement so your time is better spent elsewhere.
I am personally excited for this drop come tomorrow and my hat goes off to Massdrop for an excellent couple of mouths of audiophile drops! True, I don't have a exact usage for these but at this price it's within my experimenting budget. If nothing else they will look great on a headphone stand! :P
