Mine just came in. I've only listened to them for 20 minutes, but they sound good. I don't think I'll bother doing any critical listening for a long time. I'm just going to kick back and enjoy the music!
***EDIT #1***
So far, I'm very happy with this purchase. I've spent a lot of time with this headphone since it arrived. I'm trying to compare it with the headphones I currently have and listen to often, and I don't think I have anything that is similar (I own HD650, DT880, and K601 that get lots of use, and D2000, TH-X00 Ebony, DT770/80, and SR80e that don't get used much). Maybe they are kind of like the K601 or DT880 with some differences - haha!
It is a tad bright up top, but nothing that is fatiguing to my tin ears. Mids are pleasant, and bass is not boosted, but does extend quite well. These are not bass-slammers like the TH-X00. This is a pretty balanced sounding headphone that doesn't seem obviously goosed across any part of the spectrum.
Comfort is good. They are a substantial headphone - probably the 2nd heaviest I own after the TH-X00 - but I've kept them on my head for hours at a time with only a few little adjustments from time to time.
luckybaerI've spent more time with the HE4XX, and I thought it was fine. Then, I upgraded my source (from Modi 2 Multibit to Gungnir Multibit) and my amp (from Vali 2/Magni 3 to AURALiC Taurus MkII). HUGE, HUGE improvement in clarity, macrodynamics, and even microdynamics. Needless to say, I was really happy about how well these things scaled as I improved my gear. I think these headphones punch above their price point. Had I paid 2x as much, I would have still been pleased. GREAT VALUE.
