Right ear keeps cutting out
So I have a PC38x headset that I bought a few years back. I moved away from home for work, and left the headset there with my gaming PC. I used it maybe 2 or 3 times before I left, and it always had the problem of it cutting out in my right ear phone. It makes like a crackling noise like something is loose, and then cuts out the audio entirely. Sometimes it works for a few minutes, but inevitably cuts out on the right side again. I am wondering if there is a fix? Or could I be shipped a new one?

Any personal recommendations on balanced cables for the HE4XX to Jot?
So, it's not that I'm against balanced cables, or upgraded cables in general (I bought the Jot in hopes of using the balanced output), it's just that I'm not sure money tossed in that direction will yield what we're all looking for:improved sound quality.
I'm aware other folks feel differently, but at this point, color me skeptical!
Like you, I bought the Jot with the desire to run fully balanced in mind. With the 6XXs, I converted my stock cable to balanced (that cable was pretty easy to convert - it is unclear to me if the stock HE4XX cable can be easily converted). The Jot is good, so I don't really think I can tell a difference in objective quality running the 6XXs balanced or unbalanaced, but I do know that (objectively) they can be driven harder run balanced (per the Schiit specs).
After getting the HE4XXs, I was a bit underwhelmed with overall audio run at typical listening levels for me. Once I really cranked up the volume (high gain, about 1200) I felt like I was getting close to the sound that these headphones can really produce. So, my curiosity is, can I drive them harder (without blowing out my eardrums) running balanced, or is volume proportionally related to power output (i.e., single ended or balanced, would the volume need to be the same at the driver to get the same sound signature?) Someone has probably answered that question here already, but I am shooting from the hip a little. I really like the HE4XX, but I am finding they need to be *louder* to sound good to me, particularly in the lower frequency range. So, that is ultimately why I was curious about running them balanced - trying to decide if it is worth the money to explore that option.
I could also just be being dense here - I'm fairly new to the domain.
Meanwhile, as to the 4XXs, I actually like them a hair better than the 6XXs. When I finally swop out to the 6XXs I can't really point to any deficiency in sound quality, but when I put the 4XXs back on, I feel like I'm closer to the music, but not necessarily hearing better music.
I listen at various levels, and I turn all of 'em up when I especially like this or that song--but I don't go out of my way to really blast out my eardrums either. I'm glad I own both of pairs, and I haven't given up the idea of balanced cables entirely, but I'm in no particular hurry to become MD's resident crash-test dummy either!
