I recently hooked these up to my good old Audinst HUD-mx1 and I'm really enjoying the combo, but I was wondering if the cans would benefit from setting the amp to high gain (I'm listening comfortably at 50% volume setting, but for some records I need to go up to around 75-80%). Audinst says it's for >300ohm headphones, but I keep seeing the "more power for the planars" thing everywhere. The default gain setting offers 5V pp for a 32 ohm load , high gain setting offers +/-10Vpp, for a 600 ohm load* so I'm thinking if it's worth taking the device apart and playing around with the jumpers. Has anyone tried that? *(src: head-fi.org/threads/audinst-hud-mx1-high-or-low-resistance-setting.511350/)
