Product Description
Many headphone companies have tried their hand at planar magnetic drivers, but none have done it quite like HIFIMAN. The result of founder Dr. Fang’s PhD research at Columbia University, its driver technology has landed the company in TIME, Forbes, and CNET’s “The Audiophiliac,” and won it the CES Editors’ Choice Award Read More

I'll never pay more than $100 for these. The fact that they haven't completely redesigned the headband for this or re-released it with a new band entirely shows that Drop could care less about providing a value product for their customers.

I bought these when they were on sale for $120. I liked the sound once I settled into it but the headband started hurting the top of my head after like 15mins. I returned them and now I have a bit of returner's remorse lol because what a deal that was. Recently found a post on reddit where someone replaced the whole headband with a strap-type band from the he-560 and they said it dropped the weight by like 45g. (drop says the 4xx weighs 370g but in fact it's like 410g). I wish drop would make a 4xx with a strap band. I would pay a little more for that

Anyone using these with any of the xduoo XD-05 models? Care to shine a light on the compatibility?

For anyone considering these, account for paying $50-100 for replacement pads within the first couple years. Definitely a weak point in this design. Still a great sounding headphone though. Invest in an EQ solution though. It’s a bit finicky.

I agree on the need to change the pads, I've had mine for about a year and a half and changed mine almost immediately for the brainwavez XL, Loved them. And its only around 20 bucks. Only problem is that i like them so much its gotten me into the audiophile world and now I can barely stop myself from wanting to buy everything I see.

Hello I am very new to DROP. I just recieved my HE-4XX yesterday. They sound good at all volumes but I have also notice that these take some power to run. I run on Low Gain on my Modi 3+/Magni 3+ Stack but they seem to shine the louder I play them, but have to have my sound nob at like 3 O'Clock where 5 O'Clock is Max Volume. Again I am very new to all this so I am not sure if this is normal. I know other reviewers I watched said they take some power to run. Should I be flipping these over to High Gain, and lowering knob way down?

If you're at 3 o'clock on low gain you should definitely switch over to high gain to get some of your overhead back. For what it's worth, I find the mids to be just a bit cleaner driving these at 9 o'clock on high gain than 11 o'clock on low gain on my Asgard 3. It took me a while to A/B test this to my satisfaction due to the difficulty of matching volumes when switching back and forth, but I concluded that it's noticeable.

Thank you. I will give that a try. I have recently updated, and added the Modius and Magnius to my setup as well :)

Compared them with my HD58X and I personally like HD58X much more. HD58X - more comfortable, not heat my ears as 4XX do this, not so open as 4XX. With 4XX everyone will hear what are you listening. And sound, HD58X has huge bass and deep sound, I really can not hear the same on 4XX, 4XX is very detailed, but flat, even some electronic music sounding as melodies from old phone such as Nokia 7210.

Both can be equally enjoyable depending on the amp. I paired a Schiit Magni Heresy with the HD58X for about a year - an excellent combination. When I upgraded to a Schiit Asgard 3, the HD58X mids became WAY too forward with the Class A amplification. The HE4XX is a much better match with the Asgard 3.
Anyone where I can get another one of the headphone cables or one like it? I am having some problems with the left ear going in and out and I wanted to check the cable first.

I love the cans. They sound great. Build quality is another issue sadly. The round circle plastic has come off, get the shoo gooo glue. Fixed. the right can came off completely, left dangling by wire. Upon inspection, more glue failure. So, the whole can is heal in place by glue and two metal pins. See image. Conclusion, how did Drop slash the cost of the incredible cans. Glue, Glue, Glue. Now that you know that, choose wisely.
