Not a bad way to spend 220.00
Finally got these yesterday and kept trying against the 4xx. These are two different animals and I love it. The clarity and focus is amazing for such an open headphone. I quickly started to move towards metallica and deftones with these as they are fast and have just enough bass to kill it. I am not a bass head so don't need all the sub base. Running them now to burn them in and see if we get any changes, but for the price they would be really hard to touch. Once they have a good burn in a will put them up to the edition x. My only complaint is the 3.5 earcup plugs. I have balanced cables in 2.5 for my P20 and cannot use them for the 5xx. More to come...

Thank you for your quick impression of 5xx. I'm just curious how does it compare to the 4xx?

More treble energy, maybe a little more bass energy but less extension. dynamics are pretty limited, like a monitoring headphone sound sort of (not a bad thing). soundstage is this things killer feature, its w i d e af and the imaging is pretty good. it is a little better resolving and actually i find it will bring out more details than the 6xx.. these have become my fav headphones and albeit they do sound a bit lean because of the lack of dynamics you get used to the sound and man its sweet, much better value for money than the 4xx in my opinion.

Let them run all day yesterday to get a little burn in; I think it mellowed them about .00005 percent. I as I wear them I keep having to watch the volume as I keep tuning them up a little high. So far I have not found a single song or style they are having any issues with. I remember when I got my first real headphones (He-400) and it took a minute for my brain to remember that some of the instruments sounded off because they sounded like they would if it was live. The idea that you could really reproduce the sound accurately was amazing. I don't think the sound stage is that huge; but the openness of these gives it a huge feeling... Led Zeppelin in the light in playing and it is soooo clean.. These are finger licking good...
