Do I need these? ( yeah I know - ‘of course you do’) I already have Beyerdynamic 770 & 990, Sennheiser 58X & 6XX. I would use them mainly for gaming.

OakParkMusicGuyFor gaming....Immersive (Open World) then yes, But for FPS games.... They are not what you want for competitive, This said they are not Horrible at it, The shot sounds often are blurred into a larger area around you, distance gun fire is fine & accurate Mostly, Vehicles image perfectly though. But the distance of your shots vs shots hitting you are wrong "randomly" rather than "sometimes"(At times: your shots from your gun you see in front of your character sound like coming out from in your head, shots hitting which is behind the gun sound like they land in front of your eyes, messed with your brain, takes some adjusting at times). So if you play for fun Yes, competitive No. Music YES!

OakParkMusicGuyNo. Stop buying these midfi headphones. Save up and get something better. Elex, Ananda, or at least a Sundara or HD Zeus.

jesus-christ-himselfRubbish, I'd take the HE5XX over the Elex in a heartbeat, I'm selling it after I got these. I'd take them over my HD800S too. Stop believing price = enjoyment. HE5XX is bloody amazing, comfortable, exciting and I've tried a LOT of headphones.

marts_sumI can back this up, I sold my HD800 & kept the HE5XX because of how enjoyable it was, But then the HE5XX driver randomly died....So got an Arya.

DamienRHow is the Arya compared to the HE5XX? Will I like that if I love the HE5XX or is it totally different?

marts_sumI actually tried a heap of Hifimans & they are all different to the HE5XX sound except the Deva. It's completely different sound. All layer separted on the Arya where as the HE5XX is more a complete sound. Arya is wider & much much taller, even taller than the HD800, Arya has a faster sound, dip in the mids is more noticeable on the Arya for quite a while till you adjust. You can listen to low quality songs easy on HE5XX, but not so easy to endure on the Arya. The treble & bass is the main differences between the HE5XX & Arya. HE5XX bass is filling, Arya is more like a subwoofer, goes all the way down to sub-bass & great but not filling due to soundstage but very present. Treble the HE5XX has microdetail in strings, bells ring perfect & its present but not overdone. On the Arya is a mixed bag (HE1000se fixes these issues) Treble is lacking in volume &/or pushed back in the soundstage due to soundstage width/depth on some songs. Treble can also sound a bit different sounding due to height, Sometimes you hear the sound & then its gone meanwhile above/below where the sound was it continues to decay in sound (due to the height of sound), it can also do microdetail but mainly noticeable on less congested songs. The arya has a lot of Macro-detail so different volume of sounds, Generally with a headphone sounds come towards you (HE5XX), Arya they come out of nowhere or they sound like the are going away from you. - I know this makes it sound like the Arya is bad but that is not the case the Arya is far superior & truer to natural sound due to this, a major reason for the sound difference. Also Hifiman just released a V3 Arya which has rounded magnets (like HE400se international/HE1000se) Difference specs, unsure if it changes the sound, the HE400se chinese (normal) vs HE400se International (rounded) does have a different sound in treble & bass when directly A/B compared but after using 1 then the other they do sound the same.

DamienRThanks. I do want to try the Arya. I own the HD800S but find myself using the HE5XX more because they're just better with most my genres, especially metal. Maybe I enjoy the HE5XX because it's not so analytical, which the Arya will probably be. Someone else said the Arya wouldn't be good as the HE5XX with metal too.

marts_sum100% that is the case! at least in my experience, I wish mine didn't die so i could listen to metal & enjoy it again. If you liked the HD800s more it's actually a easy upgrade to the Arya is basically that but lower bass, more present bass, cleaner bass, little less in the mids, more space in the sound (but similar width soundstage, if anything Arya is not as wide) & taller sound. Tempted to buy another HE5XX but the QC needs a major overhaul beforehand in areas like headband, female TRS plugs (which is what failed) & solder (also failed in the sense you dont solder rubber sleeves to PCB). You can tell the difference in the plugs (female trs) between the HE5XX & Arya, 1 is loose & moves when you turn the cable, the other is tight & cant really turn the cable when plugged in.

DamienRI really hope mine don't fail, but if they did I'd buy another or get a replacement... haven't read too many complaints about the HE5XX failing. A ton about the Elex failing, apart from my cable they haven't failed on me yet. Did you not get a replacement? I wish they just made this exact signature in a more premium build, yeah... but all hifiman's aren't exactly great in that regard.
