I was initially very impressed with these. They seemed like a breath of fresh air with their effortless dynamics and clarity. Then I started to notice some issues. First, I don't like the feel of this type of metal on my skin. I suppose robustness is worth something, but does not outweigh comfort for me. Next, again relating to comfort, maintaining a proper seal is difficult do to their odd shape. I thought the tonality was fine with the middle filter (the color labels were mixed up for mine so I'm just calling it "middle") after EQing some mid bass. However I just can't get over the timbre which isn't altered by EQing. I think it has to do with the very fast decay properties of the driver across the majority of the frequency range. This can be enjoyable sometimes, but it gives acoustic recordings an unnatural quality (I'm a classical musician with years of experience playing in orchestras and chamber groups). I tend to prefer dynamic drivers for their timbre, but this is definitely an exception. My main IEM is now the Campfire Vega which, while ever so slightly slower in transient response, just sounds more like real life than any IEM I've heard (incl. Fiio fh5 & fa7, andromeda, atlas, blon bl03, kanas pro)

mtallis314You own any over ear headphones you can recommend? Classical musician here. One thing I do appreciate about these are the dynamics. Great for acoustic recordings in that regard

HelpbotI sold all my headphones, I prefer IEMs and Speakers. That being said, the DT990s (600ohm) with a decent tube amp were my best pairing for classical. I wouldn't rec them with a solid state amp though. A step below, again for classical, were the Drop 6xx and Hifiman HE400s which were roughly equally good but in different ways. Based on what I've read, the Sundara are probably the best for classical in this general price range.

mtallis314I see. Sorry to continue bothering you, however I hope to leave behind headphones one day unless quieter listening is necessary. What speakers have you settled on?
