Together with Kanto, we've created a set of bookshelf stereo speakers that deserve a spot on any Audiophile's shelf. Featuring hand-built acoustic wood cabinets, Bluetooth, and high-fidelity hardware, they've got the sound—and style—you've been waiting for. Click "request" and be the first to know when they launch.
Please, FFS, make these super affordable (because there are solid options above $300-$500 most folks would go for unless these were objectively better) and please tune the frequency response so it doesn’t have any weird humps (like what seems to be a common 1-3KHz small hump in a lot of small active speakers) or awful treble spikes. I have high hopes for these! Don’t let me down, please!
I don’t have experience with Kanto’s speakers, but so many small affordable active speakers have a hiss above 10KHz that’s hard for me to deal with. Even a 15-17.5khz hiss that some folks don’t notice much makes speakers unbearable for me after a brief listen. My PSB Alpha PS1’s had a small hiss whenever they were on/active in that region above 10KHz (probably close to 11-15KHz, which increased proportionally with volume, but I haven’t measured to find out exactly where in the frequency response that hiss exists ) that was barely noticeable and at an acceptably low level( when playing anything, so it wasn’t audible), when I got them, and I liked them, overall, so I kept them. Awesome form factor and great in combo with the tiny subwoofer PSB sold with them. Stupid mistake on my part, because it got worse over time and now they’re unbearable. Literally gives me a headache. (Hopefully, PSB will fix or replace them…)
So, please, keep in mind some of us can still actually hear up to 17-19KHz, so hiss and frequency response spikes SUCK (in general, but especially high frequency ones…like mosquito sized ice picks to the brain…)
I’d also love to see a color scheme option that isn’t just black/gray. KEF’s newer speakers like the LS50 Metas, etc., have some gorgeous colors/finished, as a random example. And being a guitarist/musician, I know I’d adore any speakers with a natural mahogany, sapele, padauk, macassar or striped ebony, bird’s eye/flame/quilted/spalted maple, koa, cocobolo, cherry, pau ferro, rosewood, zircote, purpleheart, etc. veneer (as long as it isn’t a fake wood grain/pattern or some generic stained ash veneer—those look like sh*t), and I’d pay an extra $25-$50 for it. Bamboo’s fine, but it just isn’t interesting to me compared to beautiful traditional tone-woods that look simple at a distance but stunningly gorgeous upon closer look. Not a fan of really contrasting exotic wood looks, like zebra wood & all—they go too far for most home spaces.
Seriously, please don’t just offer a f*ckin’ black/grey color scheme…give us at least one classy cool option (NOT bamboo or ash.)
And actually tune them well, with a flat frequency response and NO stupid upper bass hump like AudioEngine’s A2 & a lot of other small speakers that try to make them sound bass heavy by emphasizing upper bass that bleeds into the low mids, which doesn’t sound great.
I agree with you. But in all honesty, it's probably a bit late for your suggestions to affect the research, development, or production of these speakers. At this point, we can only hope that Kanto and Drop have made a good-sounding/nice-looking product and will offer it at a fair price.
"acoustic wood"
Also known as wood.
I'm exited to see what "improvements" drop makes to the tuning after seeing the warcrimes they did with the 8XX.
If there's something the world needs, its a cost-cut version of an already cheap readily available powered speaker that takes a months to ship.
Glad they are back to doing audiophile drop exclusives. Speakers are interesting choice hope it leads to drop balanced dac and amp options. What also would be nice would be bring back old drop exclusives amps and dacs but updated. Updated like 789 having built in DAC and cavalli tube amp with more tubes and more power lastly 02/DAC that is balanced.
I know they have a couple of headphones and wireless earbud in works but they have a steady supply of drop headphones and iems already.
I love my pandas!!! BUT, dropping support and de-listing them after the first year leaves a LOT to be desired from a 400 bucks headset. I know 400 is not crazy expensive on this hobby, but it's nothing to shrug off either, and considering they claim to be an enthusiast brand, aimed at the community, you know how much this sinks their face even further into the dirt. To be honest, I will never get a collab from Drop again after they have proven for at least 1.5 years the product is actually good, similar to their first THX amp or Koss collabs.
I use Reddit most of all, and have never had a bad experience. What ChumbWumba says sums it up, don't use Friends and Family and you should be fine. To avoid further headaches, always check the forum's rules, scammer list, and if you want to dissect even further, the buyer's reputation, time active on the forum and interactions on other posts.
Please don’t open this up to feedback from EVERYONE and instead focus on working with professionals to build a vision instead of seeking a demand to fill - this has been the biggest problem with bad collaboration products.
