It’s been a keycap-filled decade here on Drop. When we started this business of group buys, we had no idea how involved we’d get in the Mech Keys community—and how much the community would give back to us. To celebrate 10 years with a thank-you, we’ve put together 500 special gift boxes that share one thing in common: keycaps. With selections from our long and storied history of keycap runs, each box is filled with a mystery assortment of sets, artisans, and more—from brands and profiles like GMK, Artifact, MT3, Signature Plastics and others. Just a few months ago, we celebrated 10 years here on Drop by giving our community a special gift: the Keycap Mystery Box. Originally, available in an exclusive run of 300, each box was filled with a curated selection of keycap sets, artisans, and more—valued at over $200, and priced at just $99. All Mystery Boxes sold out in the matter of hours. Now, after a massive amount of requests, we’ve made an all-new batch. That’s right: the Box is back. And this time, we’ve increased the number of unique bundles, so you’re much less likely to get a duplicate if you buy two. When does the sale start?

The sale starts Friday 9/23/2022. We are announcing the onsale date for Series 2 because last time the entire run sold out in a few hours leaving some people frustrated.

What is the price?

Each box is $99.

How is this different from the last Mystery Box run?

We've made a number of improvements to add more variety and consistency to the boxes. 

Can I buy multiple boxes?

The run is limited to 2 boxes per customer.

Can I get duplicates in the boxes?

You can't get the same item in the same box. If you buy multiple boxes, you may get duplicates. It is unlikely (but possible) to get two identical boxes.

What kind of kits are in the boxes?

You can expect premium kits from MT3, GMK, SA, Skylight, Artifact, and others.

What is the expected value of the box?

The MSRP of the contents within each box is over $200.

Are the contents just old sets and old inventory from years past?

No. We have mostly included sets that are in circulation and NOT “dead” inventory from years prior. All of the products included in the boxes have at least a 4/5 star rating from previous Drop.com purchasers.

Is this a grab bag of loose keycaps?

No. All the items within the box are kits and not loose keycaps—with the exception of artisan and novelty keycaps which are, by their nature, individual keycaps. This is not a grab bag of random individual keycaps that will be hard to put together.

Why only 500 boxes?

It takes quite a bit of time to assemble check and pack the boxes of keycaps. If there is significant demand, we'll open the run for more sales but we'll also set a later ship date on the incremental sales.
