I purchased the 1800 kit to use on my Drop Shift keyboard but the spacebar cap (only one was included, I see in earlier comments some people have received more) doesn't sit properly on the stabilizers. Once placed on them, the spacebar doesn't spring back up basically putting the spacebar out of commission. Put in a ticket but checking with the community if anyone else has come across this issue.
I have this exact same issue. I put in a ticket as well, hope to hear back. Let me know if you hear something please.
I was offered a replacement set (an entire set, no option for just the spacebar to be replaced) but of course what we'd want to avoid is running into the same issue on a new set. I asked if the Drop team could confirm the spacebar in the 1800 set is truly compatible with the Shift but I didn't quite get that confirmation -- only that based on the product description (which says the 1800 set covers the Drop Shift), it should. I'm hoping this gets more visibility so someone from the product team can confirm in hand that there are no compatibility issues. FYI, I did try the spacebar key on a separate TKL keyboard and it was also "sticky" and mushy on that board as well but slightly better. Let me know of any updates on your end.
No response from Drop yet for me. I also have the 1800 set, but I am using a Keychron K8. The spacebar lines up with the switch and stabs fine, but it has that stickiness. I noticed the spacebar is not completely level, it's slightly warped on the left and right sides, and I think that might be causing it. I'm hoping they can just give me a spacebar replacement.
EDIT: They offered me either a return, replacement, or $15 refund to accept it as-is. I took the refund and will seek out an alternative solution.
Thanks for the update. Sounds like our batch had defective spacebar molds, I'm hoping newer batches don't have this issue because I really liked the typing experience otherwise.
Agreed. I'm trying to use heat and the weight of my laptop to help flatten the spacebar, I'll let you know if I'm successful.
yes the spacebar is faulty in my set too. The holes are not spaced correctly or something meaning it doesnt spring back up.
I put in a ticket also. Need to make them aware there might be some issues here.
Edit: Damn the warped spacebar (confirmed it is warped by putting it on flat surface) has caused my spacebar stabilizer to break since its on so tight. Now i have to disassemble my whole keyboard to fix...
Thanks for chiming in. Sorry to hear that - don't know what board you are working on but on the shift it's possible to remove the stabilizer w/o disassembling the board by removing the switch first followed by pressing in the tabs of the plastic stabs - takes some effort on the stock stabilizers - much easier on cherry stabs.
cheers. My keyboard has integrated plate and pcb mount stabs. Anyway fully disassembled and reassembled in an hour or so . No big deal. Support ticket also ended up with same 3 options you got. Good support all round but wish the spacebar was good out of box.
Sorry for your poor-fitting spacebars everyone. It does not appear to be a systemic problem, but we'll bring it to the attention of the vendor. We cannot "check for compatibility" or do any sort of testing prior to sending out a replacement because we do not ship these ourselves. We use a 3PL for fulfillment and the warehouse workers do not open product. They are very unlikely to be well versed in mechanical keyboards anyway.
If it's simply a problem of the spacebar jamming when depressed, it may be a tolerance issue between the spacebar stems and the stabilizers. While not a perfect solution, you can consider modifying plate-mount stabs to address this issue. See https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-mito-canvas-ctrl-mechanical-keyboard/talk/2271423
Of course, you are not expected to perform any DIY fixes and we'll always replace a defective set or refund you.
I'm having the same issue, I've tried multiple sets of stabilizers, and also put the spacebar from another mt3 set from Massdrop on the stabilizers and it worked as expected. The dev/tty spacebar won't work on any stabilizers that I've tried.
I'm having the spacebar issue, and I even tried doing the mod you linked there and the spacebar still sticks once pressed. I've tried the spacebar from one of your other mt3 sets (susuwatari) and it works on these same sets of stabilizers that I've tried. Just wanted to add this info in case anyone else wants to try doing the mod suggestion you gave.
That's unfortunate. I ultimately chose to return my set for a full refund; didn't feel like playing roulette with a replacement set. Per the reports from others above, customer service will offer you several options to address the issue.
Understood. Thanks for letting me know. We'll take this back to the vendor.
