Hey everyone,
To continue what we started with the SA Pulse TKL keycap buy, we are launching a collection of iconic keycap sets from the past for pre-order.
The three keycap sets are -
GMK Red Samurai by @RedSuns
MT3 /dev/tty by @Matt3o
XDA Canvas by @Mito
For this run of MT3 /dev/tty, the beige colorway is available and all kits will also contain the striking red ESC and ENTER accent keys. The spherical sculpted MT3 profile is a fantastic typing experience, as many enjoy the way the keycaps cup their fingertips as they type away.
This pre-order is designed to let newcomers (and those who missed the original buy!) that have purchased keyboards like the ALT, CTRL or many of our Ortholinear keyboards, an opportunity to own one of these awesome sets.
Please also note, for your early support these sets are currently available at a pre-order price for a limited time only. After production is complete, they will be available at a regular price.
As always, appreciate the support and enthusiasm from the community.
May 21 Edit:
Hey everyone, wanted to have a chance to address some of the questions and concerns I’ve seen in the discussion pages regarding the keycap collection.
First, I want to assure everyone that this does not mean we'll stop doing the custom keycap sets. Sets like Laser simply would not exist without these type of offerings. For custom keycap sets, we’ve been running them on a monthly basis and will continue to do so. For those who are looking for a great custom GMK set - we have a couple great ones coming up in June and July.
One consistent request we’ve seen for the ALT and CTRL keyboards is additional keycaps. These four sets were designed to showcase the different profiles and designs in the keyboard community and they were designed for various Drop Studio keyboards.
We had picked these four sets because they were all recent offerings (at least by keyboard community standards!). Of course, the custom versions of these runs will still return at some point in the future for people that want to pick from all options for these sets.
Hey guys, quick update from me on fulfillment. The sets are in our warehouse in the States. There was a mislabel issue which we are resolving now. The goal is to have everything shipped this week.
Why does the ortho kit use R4 for the bottom row instead of the flat R5 bottom row like the original drop? I doubt that other ortho users would like to constantly grind on the upturned bottom edge of an R4 bottom row.
EDIT: I now consider this critical failure. I have verified that MT3 R4 key hits the corner of the OLKB high-profile case. The only reason to use R4 would be to save on not having to make a flat row profile, but give what a bad idea R4 bottom row seems to be, it would be better to have a home-row instead (which is far from ideal).
rudbear@YanboWu Could you comment on the angled bottom row? It would legitimately almost be better to re-purpose the FN row from another kit over having the sharp edge of it dig into your thumbs.
rudbear@YanboWu. A number of users on the OLKB subreddit also had the same question.
I hate to spam like this, but it's a difference that makes the product almost unusable and I don't want ortho keycap sets to suffer because of a lack of clarity.
VioletteIt was all a joke my dear, I get confused all the time... But regarding your question, if I had to guess I'd say the final product sold here will look very similar, if not the same, when compared to the latest round of Dev Tty. Hope this helps in case the man himself don't answer.
The overall idea of all these “outta nowhere” drops (Samurai, Dev, Canvas) is to offer basic kits for basic users, new comers and Massdrop made keyboard owners for a very simple reason - there’s demand for that. For all the hobbyists out there with niche layouts, full kit preorders will keep happening so wait for that. Lots of people are over reacting as if these mini drops were actual drops for a last chance to grab community favorite designs, which (should be obvious) it is not.
Shipping date missed - something that's becoming more and more common in my experience on Drop. It's been ten days. Where's the official update with a new ship date?
I'd be a happier customer if there was some kind of policy that staff had to communicate within 3 days of missing a shipping estimate. Even if it's just "something happened, no update yet, we'll update you again on X date." Delays are understandable, but the failure of Drop staff to take a minute out of their busy days and actually talk to us is inexcusable for the kind of money we put on the line.
Ah! I did miss that. I use Gmail, and the frequency of irrelevant Drop emails seems to have forced anything from Drop into the Promotions section by no action of my own. So I concede that they did communicate this somewhere.
I still think they have a responsibility to give an official update in a visible spot (like a pinned comment), and certainly a responsibility to update the official shipping estimate on the product/transactions page.
awkspaceI completely agree. I care less about when the ship date is than knowing when the ship date is. Keep me updated and I'll support you; keep failing to deliver and I'll forget you.
Give us an update or the only thing that "drops" will be this site score.
The international kit and the ISO one was in the original drop, it's not like they came for free uh, you know? it's 50$ for a bunch of ùàòèòì<>.
If they remove International from one of the 2 kits which really support specific countries, may "almost nobody" be disappointed? Does it hurt your reading?
