Took a long time, but totally worth the wait!
These keycaps feel great, and I love the color. Although, there is a slight difference between the original renderings, I prefer the color of the actual product. The base set is a gray that is slightly warmer, and I am happy that is the case. It is reminiscent of some old electric IBM typewriters I played with when I was a kid. I love the colors.
The double shot letters are amazingly crisp:
There is only one imperfection that I noticed, which actually does not bother me at all, but letting Drop know since I am sure there are other customers that will be bothered by this detail, so they can address this in future runs. The legend on the Command key is a little thicker than other keys, as you can see in the following pics:
As I said, it is not super noticeable, but some might not like that. That does not take away the great look and feeling of the caps overall.
Thanks Drop and Matt3o for this amazing set. Can't wait for another collaboration between you!
P.S.
I love the Special edition keycap!
I was recently planning a retro build and was looking for keycaps to go with the theme. Was looking at SA profile for a while, but there wasn't anything out there that was appealing and available. Then I came across the MT3 Susuwatari and it fits the theme I wanted to go with perfectly!
The MT3 profile is, special. It is definitely not for everyone, and especially not for gaming. For typing/coding they are truly something, I personally love everything about them. The texture, the feeling, and the colors are just spot on.
If there was one thing I could complain about it's the fact that they are missing a NorDe/International kit. I really hope Drop makes this possible in the future.
The legends are a separate piece of plastic from the keycap rather than being printed or etched on top. This means the legend will always be visible no matter how much wear the keycap recieves.
joe-schmoeKeyboard layout doesn't really affect keycaps unless the keys are in different rows than usual. Alice has everything where it should be just split. You have to make sure that the size of the control, alt, backspace, spacebars, etc are the correct size as you would with any keyboard.
confuzyonNot quite -- many alice keyboards have two B keys, one on each side of the split. Some keycap sets include an extra B for this reason, e.g. DCX White on Black. Other sets might include one as part of an add-on kit, e.g. MT3 Extended 2048 has one in the "Small Spacebars" kit, and MT3 Serika has one in the "Macro Expansion" kit.
Obviously you could substitute any spare keycap of the appropriate row; the Susuwatari base kit has a blank R4 key that would be suitable.
Also, anyone buying MT3 Susuwatari for an alice keyboard would need to pick up the "Spacebars" kit. e.g. a Keychron Q8 requires 2.25U and 2.75U spacebars.
I love these key caps for typing on and was thinking about getting for my work keyboard, but made me think if anyone has had personal exp. with other key caps profiles who also like these and what would those be?
The Google box says SA is the closest and these have “sharper edges”. Which may or may not be a plus.
Either way, looking to maybe try another profile out before re buying these bad boys any thoughts?
I’m so bummed… I got this specifically to use with a G80-11800, and it has a 2u right shift. I thought I would have to order another kit, but it’s just not available at all? Has anyone done this and replaced it with something or used a space bar? I really want to make it work. I wish I could get a 2u shift.
It's a shame you have to buy the entire ortholinear kit on top of the base kit if you already own it. Any chance of there ever being a kit that is ortho minus those already in base?
jcurryThere's only Command keys available for this one, included in the base. The *custom* version of the /dev/tty set (but not the regular version) has an optional Apple kit, with different sizes of Command and Option keys.
But if you're looking for function keys with Mac legends, the Extended 2048 set is the only MT3 one that has those available.
