I've never participated in a Massdrop purchase before. I'm wondering if there is a way to get these shipped from the manufacturer in Germany (or anywhere else in Europe), instead of going through Massdrop in USA? I'm looking at extra 24% tax to the price if they arrive from USA, vs. 0% tax if it's from the EU countries :(
So is there any way to arrange another shipping location, MiTo?
no, sadly there is no way. you're not the first one with that idea, but it just doesn't workt hat way.
just to shed some light on the why. What I have gained basically when GMK ships the key's they ship them in bulk bags. They don't ship them in the tray's we get. Then its up to the buyer to QC, Sort, Pack and then Ship them out to customers. I think a lot of people think that places like Massdrop and the Group Buy runners get them already pre sorted and in tray's which would be amazing but would most likely add a LOT to cost.
This is not true.
GMK doesn't ship them in bags, they USED to a long time ago but since there were constant complaints of scratched keys and what not they have taken the responsibility for traying them up. In fact on original drops you could pay more for trays, but they've now just incorporated it into the overall cost and taken out the option. Just look at the latest Nautilus pictures- those pictures are from GMK in trays.
The reason they won't do what OP is asking is that GMK isn't going to deal with individually shipping them out and thus splitting up the shipment outside of Massdrop's address & putting extra liability/effort on them when that's not really what they're set up for.
I don't know why most the pictures I have seen of GMK drops.. there in these huge clear plastic bags. That look like trash bags. With the words "Sorting" Tagged on the photos. Perhaps there modifier key's are lose keys there showing?
This is GMK's instagram. Just look at the pictures.
Can you show me these drops with big bags of keycaps from GMK? Are you confusing GMK & SP or actually JTK? Only pictures I've seen that sound like what you're saying are JTK group buys.

Nope, it doesn't work that way. Massdrop buys the EU product without VAT. When the product is originating in EU and it's sold in EU – it _will_ add VAT to the cost. You won't have 0% VAT. The only fees you can «save» in EU are custom duties for import (which are usually much less than VAT), maybe a bit on shipping and handling. Look at European Group Buys – prices for EU customers are higher, because they need to add VAT to the price.
The only way you could save on VAT, is buying abroad and either flying it with you, or have someone fly this in in luggage. There might be other ways, but of dubious legality.
