Mattyd717The boomer kit is more of a novelty add-on kit. It's meant to be paired with one of the base kits (either the Extended Kit or the Compact Kit).
Or if you already own something like GMK White-on-Black, you can just buy the Boomer Kit and bam you have a version similar to the current Starboard.
YanboWuThanks. Very new to mech keyboards. I have a Bloomberg keyboard currently for work but ran across this one and think I could adapt it for home use if I bought a mech keyboard with key caps I could replace right? I absolutely need a numpad though so just need to find a keyboard with a numpad set that matches close enough not to be an eyesore
Mattyd717Correct! This is a custom keycap set and it should work with any keyboard with standard MX-mount type switches.
So if you purchase any of the standard 104-key full size keyboards out there (in fact WASD actually sells some without keycaps), you can swap the keys out for this set.
If you want to match the color scheme of the current generation Starboard, you can buy the boomer kit with our GMK White-on-Black keycap set.
YanboWuThanks - just ordered both boomer set and black on white. Hope you don’t mind a novice question - if I buy the WASD board you recommended, what would be a good switch for me to use that’s similar to the starboard? The starboard is fairy quiet but very smooth, but it doesn’t need to be exactly the same. I could enjoy a bit more tactile response/feel, though I’m firmly against anything too noisy. But I’m just overwhelmed with the options available. MX brown? Idk.
Mattyd717I believe the Starboard is a rubber-dome none mechanical switch (though I've never had the opportunity to use one myself)
You can check out our builder module here, which has a few switches with sound tests as well.

In terms of the WASD available switches and what's the quietest, that would probably be the MX Silent Red. However, that is a linear switch which is a bit different from something like the tactile brown. I imagine you'd probably want to avoid any clicky switches like the blues and greens.
Hope this at least points you in the right direction!
Estimated ship date says October 6th. It’s October 22nd and we haven’t had an update from Drop. Drop is just going to leave us hanging like that? With no updates? With our money in their pockets? Extremely unprofessional. Didn’t expect this from a business like Drop, and you better believe I have withheld making a few purchases from Drop over this lack of communication. So, it’s not good for business for Drop either. Get on the horn and communicate with your customers, Drop.
Does the promo apply to the novelties keys (Boomer or zoomer kit) or ANY other sets too besides the extended/compact set too? Cuz if it did, honestly, I would click order on a compact kit, CMD kit, and the zoomer kit immediately… really hope it’s not just a 10% oddball why
