Bummer that the ship date is so long. Pay $85 now and have your product come in 5 months? come on
As far as I understand it these group orders for keycaps usually have a very long wait time because of queuing and manufacturing time. I also wish the release date was a lot sooner but it seems to be pretty common amongst all profiles from what I can tell.
There's somewhere here that ordered GMK Hyperfuse before, and still haven't get it 5 years after the GB ended.
You can pay much closer to the ship date since this is continuously running. If you buy now you get promotional pricing though.
I have no faith that this will be delivered on time so don't count on 5 months just like the Laser people who thought they were actually going to get it this month haha.
haha yeah relatively new to keyboards. Just don't know any other consumer items where you buy things 6 months in advance for small pieces of plastic/don't have the product ready to go at the advertised launch. It's plastic keycaps, not a Tesla EV car
> It's plastic keycaps, not a Tesla EV car
But it's also a (relatively) low volume production compared to the Tesla cars.
You wish it'd ship by that promised date. Add at least 4 months to that like the current Mito Laser orders.
Designers/vendors typically don't have enough capital to pay for all of the keycaps up front so they use group buys to get the required funding for the orders. There are plenty of keycaps you can purchase that are available right now on amazon and taobao but when you get into these custom designers, profiles, manufacturers etc. you end up waiting because of how much smaller this market is.
You don't really have to join the group buy in order to get the keycaps. You can wait until the vendor sells their "extras" which are the orders they paid for in order to sell after the group buy ships to the people that pre ordered. The extras are usually marked up and a bit more expensive and can be difficult to attain if there aren't a lot of sets which is the biggest risk of waiting since it isn't guaranteed like a group buy, but you do not have to wait months without money or product.
Ultimately, the group buy format is the mostly widely used for keycaps, keyboards etc. in the community. There are options for in stock keyboards and keycaps all over the internet, but for the good stuff, you gotta wait.
6 months is a fast turnaround in keyboards tbh. Definitely a bit of a shock when you first get into it. Same with everything being sold out all the time.
