@MiTo your 65% kit is missing a pipe key and idk why there's a 2.75u shift in there.
Why add a stepped caps to 65% but not for the TKL and 1800 layout...
My point is that looking at the other offerings in this Drop keyboard centric drop, its clear that there could have been even less keys offered. I am sure corners had to be cut and I would rather see a 1.5 backsapce than none because its harder to replace than a 1u (on a flat profile). XDA Canvas has been offered 3 times and sold a ton of kits, so if you need a specific layout I am sure you can get it on the second hand market.
I will let Mito give 100% confirmation, but these kits rarely change once orders have started going through. Having said that, you will have no problem getting any keys you need on mechmarket for not that much of a markup.
Hello everyone!
The reasoning behind this sale is because we'd like to offer the Canvas XDA keycaps with savvy and simple options, when compared to a traditional group buy (with custom kits). Data shows that the majority of people who visit drops have difficulties in understanding layout differences and most customers freeze when presented with mix & match kits - like Laser GMK, Pulse SA, etc.
Therefore, like you can currently see in Pulse SA - in order to cater to both audiences (hobbyists and newcomers) I came up with basic, complete and elegant kits designed to cover the most popular keyboards out there in a savvy, rapid to deliver and affordable way. You don't need to think what kits you need, a single kit is enough to cover your keyboard (just pay attention to the form factor - 60%, TKL, etc.).
For complex decoration & exotic kits we already had three Canvas XDA rounds with more than 25,000 participants. I want to focus on new projects and new ideas instead of repeating the same project over and over again.
⚠️FAQ's:⚠️
> What kit do I need for my keyboard?
If you have a 40% - it was supported on the previous Canvas XDA drops, not supported in this sale;
If you have a 60% (e.g. Poker, Ducky One 2 Mini) - you will need either the 65% Kit or TKL Kit;
If you have a 65% (e.g. Massdrop ALT) - you will need the 65% Kit;
If you have a TKL (e.g. - Cooler Master Novatouch) - you will need the TKL Kit;
If you have a 1800 (e.g. Massdrop SHIFT) - you will need the 1800 Kit
> Why not making the full drop instead?
I already did several times and would like to move on to new designs and ideas.
> Is this going to be the norm for custom keycap set project sales coming next?
Nope, normal drops (such as Laser SA) will still exist. This, however, is a chance for people to buy easy and cheap kits without solving puzzles.
Any questions, please drop me a line, hope you enjoy this!
I'm your target audience and as a noob, I appreciate these kits for the Preonic I pre-ordered. I wouldn't even know where to begin, plus the exorbitant cost and time investment, of putting together a custom set. Too bad people are displeased with the options but it speaks to the popularity of the set, so that's a silver lining.
Hey everyone,
To continue what we started with the SA Pulse TKL keycap buy, we are launching a collection of iconic keycap sets from the past for pre-order.
The three keycap sets are -
GMK Red Samurai by @RedSuns
MT3 /dev/tty by @Matt3o
XDA Canvas by @Mito
For this run of XDA Canvas, the kits contain the bauhau accents as originally envisioned by @Mito. They were meant to add a small splash of color onto an otherwise uniform surface - something that was inspired by many of Dieter Rams' designs. XDA profile also means the kits offered are more modular with the 1800 kit, while also fitting a standard 104-key keyboard.
This pre-order is designed to let newcomers (and those who missed the original buy!) that have purchased keyboards like the ALT, CTRL or many of our Ortholinear keyboards, an opportunity to own one of these awesome sets.
Please also note, for your early support these sets are currently available at a pre-order price for a limited time only. After production is complete, they will be available at a regular price.
As always, appreciate the support and enthusiasm from the community.
May 21 Edit:
Hey everyone, wanted to have a chance to address some of the questions and concerns I’ve seen in the discussion pages regarding the keycap collection.
First, I want to assure everyone that this does not mean we'll stop doing the custom keycap sets. Sets like Laser simply would not exist without these type of offerings. For custom keycap sets, we’ve been running them on a monthly basis and will continue to do so. For those who are looking for a great custom GMK set - we have a couple great ones coming up in June and July.
One consistent request we’ve seen for the ALT and CTRL keyboards is additional keycaps. These four sets were designed to showcase the different profiles and designs in the keyboard community and they were designed for various Drop Studio keyboards.
We had picked these four sets because they were all recent offerings (at least by keyboard community standards!). Of course, the custom versions of these runs will still return at some point in the future for people that want to pick from all options for these sets.
For people who have joined the XDA Canvas pre-order from March, those who have selected both the Alphas and Text Mods kits in their order will receive a $15 refund. Those who have selected the Alphas, Text Mods, and Alphapad kits in their order will receive a $25 refund. Please note that the price from the custom run and this run both reflect their actual costs - custom keycaps usually cost more due to the additional sorting, packaging and processing needed for each of the kits.
I feel for you @ExtraCalories , I presume you bought the Alpha set with Text Mod (I personally went for the Beta and Micons which aren't part of this drop).
If this is the direction that Drop/Massdrop are going moving forward, they should have this pre-build set upfront for earlier joiners benefit. Otherwise what's the point of being an early adopter knowing in the future that this kind of set might appear.
Ping. Is there any update here?
I got the Ortho set and today ordered the Preonic... looks like the latter is going to come in before the keys! Why is this drop so late?
obermanThe current cadence of made-to-order keycap sets that we sell is as follows:
* “Custom” keycap set preorder - many kits available
* In-stock sets made for common layouts - the page you’re looking at now (note that the name does not say “custom”)
* “Keycap Re-Cap” - sells extras from the original custom preorder
