Take a walk with us… Back to a time when cassette tapes ruled, and the coolest thing you could do with them was take a walk. That, of course, was the time of the Walkman: king of last century’s portable audio players—and keeper of an iconic style that would make even an iPod jealous. In our latest keycap set, we’re hitting rewind to bring that style straight to the top of your keyboard. From the brain of retro-inspired designer Mr. Bingo, meet the DCD WLK-MN Keycap Set: a blue and orange creation bootlegged right out of 1979. Inspired by the first-ever Walkman unveiled by Sony that same year, this vintage set has absolutely no skips with vivid authentic colors, Japanese sublegends, and our gently cylindrical DCD profile made from ultra-smooth PBT. Beyond the Base Kit, we recommend popping in the Spacebars Kit for even more compatibility—or the Novelties Kit and matching WLK-MN Desk Mat for a fully realized retro revival. It’s our throwback mixtape, inspired by a throwback tape player, for you to throw on any keyboard in your collection. (Even if you’re not walking with it.)
A go-to for many enthusiasts because of its durability and shine-resistance, PBT has a unique feel that can also be a source of friction—both figuratively and literally. For some, it’s great. For others, it’s grit. DCD offers an alternative. Short for Drop Cylindrical Dye-Sub, DCD is part of the Drop Cylindrical family of keycap profiles, along with DCX (Drop Cylindrical X) and DCL (Drop Cylindrical Lumen). Unlike the other two, which are made from ABS, DCD features a proprietary PBT material that retains all of the advantages of the plastic without its trademark texture. In short, DCD keycaps are smooth. Of course, like the rest of the Drop Cylindrical family, they feature a shorter, subtly sculpted shape with exceptional overall build quality. For a truly blemish-free look that lasts, each keycap’s sprue mark is located on its interior (rather than on a finished side, like many caps). Look closely at the legends, and you’ll find our exacting reverse dye-sublimation process at work, allowing this set’s lighter iconography to stand out against a darker base. It’s seamless typing, from aesthetics to texture. It’s DCD: a peerless PBT profile, only on Drop.
