RollavenThanks for the chart comparison. It's like you're reading our minds. ;) So many good mid-to-high tier options announced recently. The only issues for me are choice and sampling now.
RollavenElegia comes with case, lower cost and higher in value. Listening to mine and its the best dynamic closed back ive heard. I will save up for mr speakers ether flows. Plus I also got mine for $880 with slight discount. 😎
ludachrisCase - yup, fact.
Lower cost - yup, fact
Higher in value - ummm, opinion. Can you help us understand how you draw that conclusion? I would think that the quality of the sound is a pretty important part of a headphone. Since you have an Elegia, can you compare it to something close to the CX that you have listened to?
Not saying you are wrong, just saying that a case and lower cost isn’t the whole story in value, is it? Your opinion is as relevant as anyone’s, and possibly more so if you have the right listening compares to share.
jsmiller58The sound is subjective to everyones hearing thats why I didnt mention the sound in value. I didnt mention the sound but there are graphs from the cx and elegia to look at to compare with. Not trying to say the cx arent good and I am saving up for ether flows c. You cant go wrong with the elegia or cx but for my budget the elegia wins in value/package in terms of cost and wait time. No one has listened to the cx you have to wait until Feb.
ludachrisGot it, and I do understand your reasoning.
For me, though, things like cases are not that big a deal (most of my listening is at home and if I need a case they are relatively inexpensive).
Also, for me, the sound is the most important (I don't care how inexpensive it is if I don't like it). I know no one has heard the CX, that's why I asked if you could compare it to something close (for example I think the Ether C is probably close, as are the AFC).
Anyway, as both Elegia and CX get on the ears of more users I am interested in hearing the impressions especially of the treble differences - those FRs definitely look like very different experiences.
jsmiller58I've listened to the Aeon Closed and can wholeheartedly say the Elegia is superior. While very detailed, there is a heft/weight missing from the AFC. It's a cold, lean headphone that doesn't have the dynamics of the Elegia (or any Focal for that matter). That, and I am discovering how nice this new driver in the Elegia is. It responds so well to EQ and can really pull some power to deliver some incredible impact with well extended-lows. The mids are sublime and the highs have enough sparkle. Really, it's going to be hard to beat this headphone at this price point. I hope Focal takes the Be drivers from the Utopia and spins off a closed-back model based on them (to compete with HD 820, Sony Z1R, etc).
