Get these. They are fantastic sounding. Let them burn in, though. At first don’t listen to them (to avoid brain burn in) - just let them play for 4 or 5 days straight. I enjoy these just as much as my ZMF Eikons. The tuning kit (different types of inserts) allow you to customize the sound (de emphasize the treble, thus making the bass stand out more). If you need closed headphones for your particular situation, they deserve a try.
How would you compare these to the AFC? I wasn't a big fan of those compared to the Elegia and Cascade's but I am itching for a closed back planar.
I have a bad head cold right now and my ears are totally stuffy, so can't do real time compares. As I remember, with the white one notch filter in each the CX is warmer (pleasantly so, not in the sense of veiled), and doesn't have some of the sibilance the AFC can display. I am never good at describing sound stage and imaging, so I can't give you much there. I actually think the CX are more comfortable, without that pressure point I feel at the bottom of the AFC cups.
When I get rid of this cold I will try to remember to post more. But I will say I enjoy my CX, and reach for it more than my AFC or even the more expensive Eikons when closed cans are called for...
I do have pretty good audio chain pushing all of these (DX7S & 789).
No worries and feel better. Since these are a regular drop now they have my attention. I just know they get compared to the AFC a lot and they didn't do much to wow me so I'm a bit apprehensive. I haven't heard a ton of closed back planars but I know these hey talked about a lot.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.
Thanks - and will definitely add some observations. Hopefully be through this cold sometime this weekend. It is a bad one though - my poor wife, who gave it to me (she's like that, shares!) had it and was coughing so badly that she literally fractured one of her vertebrae - a cold that breaks your back, that is a bad cold!!
